RE: Series 9 Episode 2 discussion
Finally watched this episode last night, and I really enjoyed it - probably because of the "forewarning" about the 3 sections. I give the producers 10 out of 10 for trying something different, rather than stick to the usual chronological order of events. Sure, it'd be suffocating to do this all the time, but for a one-off - it's a great gamble.
Best lines (and there were quite a few) were between H/R: Harry "...Let's keep it to work." Ruth: "This is about work." Classic! Worst doe-eyed bored look: Maya. Why bother turning up? Series 9.3 Spoiler: show |

I think when Harry spoke to Lucas, he says 'each other' but means 'you'. We know Harry has trust issues with Lucas (and Lucas with Harry), so his words sounded to me as reassurement for himself about his decision, hear from Lucas that he can trust him. I didn't pay much attention to Harry speaking on his phone, I'll have to rewatch that. LNF |

RE: Series 9 Episode 2 discussion
I think that whole scene with Harry and Lucas was brilliant. They are both talking about not lying and about Beth and having second chances but we know that Lucas seems to have a pretty big secret himself, and they could just as easily be having this conversation again in a few episodes time when Lucas is in Harry's bad book.

I have no doubt further Lucas/Harry scenes are down the line and most likely will involved one or both of them pouting angrily and grumpily at one another for not being straight with each other. They seem to have perfected that attitude quite well. And I just have to mention HellsBells, your sig cracks me up every time I see it, the dog is brilliant!! And I cannot stop laughing over how the way Harry and the dog area tilting their head in the same direction that gives them such an uncanny resemblance!!! RIP Carter Hall ~ Hawkman |

My take on that was that it is a reference to the "Ruth-top" in 9.1 scene when Ruth says to Harry that on the grid they (and by extension the whole team) can live their lives in the open. No lies. But I am a little H/R-centric so take that for what it is.... Nothing on Spooks ever has just one meaning. Now cracks a noble heart. RE: Series 9 Episode 2 discussion
Finally got around to watching ep 2--don't really feel the Maya vibe just yet, but I'm hoping she'll grow on me (or at least make more sense when we know what the heck is going on).
Also seemed a bit convoluted that the Colombians would choose that particular time and place to try and take out Beth--really? it wouldn't have been easier to get her at home alone in the first place rather than during an obviously high security event with lots of witnesses who also needed to be gunned down? really? Still, really enjoyed the grid interactions and am looking forward to more |

RE: Series 9 Episode 2 discussion
Finally found it online!
Thought the "Yabu no Naka"-esque structure was okay, but it did telegraph somewhat more than usual that not everything would be as it seemed. But kudos to Kudos to handling the repetition pretty well. The lift "race" scene reminded me of something: not sure whether that was also meant to be a tribute or homage of sorts... damn this ageing brain... Anyway, what's with the "Beth looks frumpy" vibe on here?! Surely you want your spooks to be boy/girl next door types that melt into the background. If they were all femme fatales dressed up to the nines then surely you'd get dozens of witnesses for everything they did, from taking the milk in to shooting a Russian! Finally, I know that the audience needs some kind of exposition at various points, and it can't always be in the briefing room, but I do groan inwardly at how clumsily it is handled sometimes. Example from this episode: "Five of them might work in the oil industry and live in the Surrey Hills but one of them is a trained assassin paid to kill Robert Westerhouse". Erm, yeah, thanks for that, writers. Not sure that on an actual operation that anybody would be sitting there with their earpieces in, thinking "Drat! Why are we here again?! Should have paid more attention..." |
