Yes he does. RA's usual understated performance that is sometimes missed or overlooked. I like Lucas's vulnerability, but I LOVE it when he's in Section D/leader mode - then he's magnetic. I love the flirting with Beth. He did that a little with Ros, and I wish the writers had developed that a bit more - not as a love interest, but just as cameraderie between colleagues. It's cool.

RE: [spoilers] Lucas. Just Lucas.
I said on the episode thread for 9.2 that he played that tiny moment in a room just with him and a laptop beautifully. He does the moments of silence so beautifully.
Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature |

Yes, exquisite the way he held his hands away from the screen, wasn't it? And the subtlest emotions on his face. Clever actor.

I have to watch the episode again as I have only seen it once to catch all the small nuances he brings to the screen. I can never understand why people are negative towards his acting in comparrison to Nicola's and Peters I rate them all.

RA is a very nuanced actor and I quite like him - always have. I guess that I don't feel like I have been living with the Lucas character for nearly as long, so he hasn't developed far enough yet for me to feel like I really understand him. This is what I feel I know about Lucas so far: he has had a very difficult past, he needs emotional connections with people whether it is the love of a woman or Harry's trust, and he is probably a lot more like Harry than either one of them would care to admit. RE: [spoilers] Lucas. Just Lucas.
I think he's an utterly fascinating character for the very reason that others seem to dislike him. He's not easy.
I love that Lucas is so hard to place. He's heroic and brave and yet utterly vulnerable. He doesn't always make the right decisions. If for one horrible second you could imagine what being tortured on and off for eight years would do to you, then you wonder how he's not in a loonie bin. Would I have put him in charge of Section D ?- no way! Everything is tamped so far down inside that it seems he could break at any time. He pulls himself together when he's on the job, when he's got something to think about other than the huge amount of mess inside. He only shows his fragility to the women he lets into his life and obviously he's not good with them. How could anyone with so much turmoil be a reliable partner? And to be honest the fact that he is such a mess, rather than a reliable stereotypical hero makes him more of a draw than the lazy writing of just bringing in another all-around good guy. I just wish they would lay it all on the table for us. And perhaps they will this series. |

Well said redlyn, I like Lucas for the same reasons. He appears in control on the outside yet is a simmering mass of contradictions on the inside. His choice in women is atrocious though!!
We move on from this It's the realisation that I make a negligible difference Sometimes you have to give a man a chance |

Still trying to figure Lucas out.
He seems to me to be very needy when it comes to his women. He desperately needs that physical connection almost outside of any emotional/mental connection. Not that I blame him. 8 years in prison would screw anyone up as far as inter-personal relationships are concerned. Now cracks a noble heart. RE: [spoilers] Lucas. Just Lucas.
The Lucas we are seeing in this series is a lot more entertaining than in the last one, and although the love-in with Maya is a bit boring, I am enjoying the intrigue that is slowly being played out. The character is turning into a very nasty piece of work on the face of it so far. The way he looked at Ruth in the corridor sent a chill down my spine. I think he's going to do something terrible to her. If he does then he will be completely out in the cold as far as Harry is concerned. He will not show him any mercy. If the storyline continues with Lucas as the ultimate betrayer then I can't see how the character can possibly carry on into series 10.

RE: [spoilers] Lucas. Just Lucas.
To me he's just "protecting his butt," and digging himself a deeper and deeper hole. After this week's episode (4) I doubt if he'll survive into the next series, or if so, into episode one only. (I hope I'm wrong). While he's certainly going off the rails, I still think he's ultimately loyal, but might have a huge detour to show that. If he dies, he'll die a hero; his character has suffered through too much.
