RE: Series 9 Episode 6 discussion
I haven't got much to add to what has already been said, but it certainly seems that Harry might be one step ahead of Lucas in that he may have predicted "this day would come" and took provisions with Malcolm (OH MY it was SO GREAT to see Malcolm again!!!). I'm a Lucas die hard so I'm still holding out for some sort of redemption but it's not looking good. This was such a great episode. I was so tense, hands clenched, completely riveting! The twists and turns with story and character in series 9 is a great return to form, this is what was missing in series 8. This is why we love the show! (even though its crushing to see fav characters self destruct!)

RE: Series 9 Episode 6 discussion
OK. That's it! I give up. I admit that I haven't a clue where this is going so I am just going to sit back and let it unfold. So good on you Kudos! Its going to take a while for that episode to digest.
The Grid based stuff was great. Good boy Tariq! Dimitri really took the lead. And Beth was a resourceful as ever. And Ruth a brilliant as ever. ("OI! Evershed! Stop being nosy." ) Still don't know why the Chinese want Lucas. Do I? Harry's back in form - but I hear he has a crick in his neck, poor baby. Not sure where I am getting that from. And, hey! My home state made it into Spooks - so that's cool. Well, the Rockville Correctional Facility anyway. Grew up not far from there. Dubious honor, I know, but I take what I can get! Because we are all trailer trash or CIA. The Lucas plot that has been so separate from everything else, is finally starting to be woven into the rest of the plot. I thought they showed the two sides of him very well. They revealed just enough for me to feel like it is going somewhere. Crikey! I guess Lucas has officially gone over the deep end, huh? So glad to see Malcolm! Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm...! I was screaming at Lucas for playing Malcolm, but once a Spook, always a Spook. Good old, solid, loyal, acute Malcolm. Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

This is requiring too much thinking, my brain hurts now.... No kidding! My life was much happier before Lucas went all loco!! Although I do have to say, this was really one of the best Spooks episodes I have seen!!! This is the first time that this series that I have seen this new team act like a true team! It's ABOUT TIME!!!! How cute was it that the team looked so proud that Lucas was able to outwit the bad guys!! And it was ingenious the way that Lucas figured out that Harry wasn't the one giving the orders, nice one with the opera!!!! And it's clear that Lucas's moral lines are still there, but how long can he toe the line before he breaks it completely because of what Vaughn is making him do? I'm really thinking that Lucas is suffering from personality dissociation or something! I just hope that Harry can help Lucas fix this hole that he's dug himself into! Please save him Harry! You're the only one who can!!! RIP Carter Hall ~ Hawkman |

RE: Series 9 Episode 6 discussion
Just thinking about what Lucas said to Malcolm to get the Albany file from him, something about someone trying to set Harry up with photos from (I think) somewhere in China, with the year being 1995, 15 years ago. That must mean that Harry was also present for whatever went down with Vaughn, John and Maya.
I just finished reading the series 9 rumor and spec thread (which I began reading in the middle of last night while I was having insomnia.) Spoiler: show I've gotten to the point where I don't want to speculate anymore. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride. Rooftop scene: Beth and Dmitri sneak up and disarm Lucas, cuff him and lead him away. Lucas screams, "No Harry please, I'd rather die!" Harry: "We're sending you to rehab ................. in Texas." |

RE: Series 9 Episode 6 discussion
Just a few thoughts:
On the preview of the next episode, Harry sounds pissed that Ruth was spying on Lucas and deny the importance of the accusatory data she collected. Why? He appears to know more about what is going on than the rest of us AND he's not sharing with Ruth. Score for Ruth is a traitor theory? On the other hand, Lucas appears to be unaware that Harry has his back. Could he being played by both sides? Maybe Harry knew that Lucas was a potential target because of his past and now Lucas is the proverbial cheese in the mousetrap. If that is the case, Lucas will go off the deep end. I still don't buy Lucas betraying MI-5 because of a woman. All male section chiefs have been there, making the wrong decisions because of love, misguided or not (remember Adam with the wife of the Iranian diplomat? If Ross weren't there to cover his back...). Anyway, a bit of love-madness has always been allowed in Spooks but not outright betrayal. And it's not a persuasive argument for an agent who endured 8 years of torture and isolation. |

I don't know if Ruth is a traitor, I can't really see her being evil anymore than I can see Lucas being evil. But it does sound like that Harry isn't liking that Ruth keeps digging into the Lucas situation. The preview sure made it seem like that Harry is not only not accepting that Lucas is a traitor, he seems to be quite ready to back up Lucas and get him out of trouble. It's possible that Harry knows something, I mean, why else with the whole fake file and Malcolm thing? Clearly a back-up plan was installed. There's something fishy going on here. Lucas seems to have become the wild card here, he's desperate and he's scared, I hope Harry fixes this. But it also seems that Harry and Lucas have a talk about betrayal, at least that's what the previews made it seem like, where Harry says that "betrayal is a cancer" line..... Who knows, the light at the end of the tunnel may not be so dark after all..... Oh I love how Malcolm returns and hope is ignited again!! RIP Carter Hall ~ Hawkman |

RE: Series 9 Episode 6 discussion
A couple of things I noticed from last night's programme
When Lucas dials for an ambulance and the American girls murmers 'Albany', you can hear the emergency operator asking what service he requires - well at that point there's a beep sound as if the call has been ended but then Lucas gives the operator details. I thought Lucas must have cut the phone call and then pretended to give details so that she would die. However, we then see the emergency services there. Did anyone else notice this? When Lucas was applying pressure to her neck, it showed his fingers releasing, but to me it looked like his index finger actually kept the pressure on until she fades away. Maybe there's hope for Lucas yet? |

Lucas is still very well redeemable even after this. He did not kill the girl, even with an order from "Harry", he still did not cross that line. He may have hesitated for a few seconds in calling the ambulance when he heard her utter the words "Albany", his fingers may have slightly released pressure, but at that point there was nothing he could really do, she was dying, he wasn't gonna bring her back anyways. It was not Lucas who put a gun to her head and shot her in cold blood, it was the bad guys who lured Lucas into that situation where she ended up being shot, Lucas was the one trying to save her. I agree that she may have died anyway, but he allowed her to die because he was saving his own skin. That may not be murder but still... |
