RE: Lucas North Speculation
Well said, Bravo, and the plot-line works. I really want some redemption for Lucas.

RE: Lucas North Speculation
I think the issue I have with series 9, that Lucas, who had given everything for his country, should have such an awful exit. He was left as a traitor who gave away state secrets for the love of a woman who told him that she didn't love him.
I don't think any other main character in Spooks has had such an implausible exit. Lucas deserves redemption in series 10. Lucas 8.4: It's all about trust, isn't Harry ?. Signature by the brilliant TygerBright |

RE: Lucas North Speculation
I thought of an (implausible) analogy.
Imagine if the character of Dr Gil Grissom of CSI, who, after years of being set up as the mild-mannered entomologist, deep thinker, and thorough investigative scientist, was suddenly found out to be Arthur "The Axeman" Connolly (apologies to anyone with that name), who hacked up 12+ victims in his early twenties along with a colleague "just because he wanted to see what insects turned up," changed his identity and became an eminent scientist. BUT some 20 years later, his colleague turned up with a bottle of bugs, and suddenly "Gil" decides to betray his CSI team and forward all the Forensics Departments secrets to the Mafia, but not before running off with a woman, Maria (not Sarah, obviously) who he's been wildly in love with for over 20 years. He faces off against "Brass" on the top of the Stratosphere tower in Las Vegas, Brass pleads with him, but yes, we know the end. Does anyone think that CSI fans would accept this? Why should they? Then please tell me why we should accept this for the character of Lucas? (And apologies to the fans and writers of CSI. I loved the show with Grissom, sadly I found it hard to watch once he'd gone). |

Although, you left out the part where some rookie member of the CSI team suddenly notices after all this time, stuck to the wall of Arthur/Gil's office, the A4 sheet of paper reading "I am Arthur and I killed those people, yes I did, it was me. Did I mention my name is Arthur?". |

RE: Lucas North Speculation
Having sat through series 7 & 8 again, reinforced my own opinion that Lucas's character did not have one shred of JB persona in his personal makeup.
It amazes me how the writers took this path when the continuity errors were so obvious, and if we the many viewers could see this, why couldn't they or did it just turn into a paycheck for them. Lucas as others have said he deserves to have his "name" cleared and his honour restored. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.[/font][/i] |

RE: Lucas North Speculation
It would be great to have Lucas to return to the Grid, after everything he did (if it could be explained in some way). Would Harry be able to even work with Lucas? Could Ruth forgive him for what he did to her? I think it would make for a very interesting series.

I think the question would be, if Lucas had been manipulated and his mind messed up so badly, could he ever even have the mental capacity to return to this line of work? That is if he hasn't ended up in some catatonic state after his head being so messed up by the enemy. And if Lucas really was innocent and that say the enemy brainwashed or manipulated his mind to make him do this, I think Harry and Ruth would both forgive him after knowing that it wasn't really him who did all those things, in fact, I could see Ruth being even more sympathetic to Lucas and what he had suffered, she wouldn't blame him. And Harry would probably blame himself for letting this happen. It certainly would make an interesting series. RIP Carter Hall ~ Hawkman |

RE: Lucas North Speculation
I doubt if Lucas could return to MI5 with a head messed so badly. And I'm not even sure that I'd care so much if he didn't. All I want is some redemption for his character (and especially from that stupid plotline).

RE: Lucas North Speculation
Well, it is arguable that he shouldn't have been allowed back after his stint in Russia Obviously Harry has the ability to bend the rules when it suits him, but I doubt he'd be so lenient again after the way Lucas acted.
