RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
If Ruth isn't "in love" with Harry, then my name's Bertie Wooster! Of course she is. Women always say one thing and mean the other. As for Kudos being afraid of getting them together, im not sure about that. I think that if they could see good storylines running from it, they would. I think there are just too many good storeylines out there, and Embankment scenes, and rooftop scenes, and corridor scence, and hospital scenes (get my drift) with them not being a couple. Season 10 doesn't have to be angst ridden again, but perhaps sees them finding comfort and friendship with each other again. Now that would be super to watch.

Now before you kick me out of the cake club, this is not necessarily my preferred option, but you know, I think I will actually be okay with it. I just don't want them to die wondering - I want them to at least have the courage to try a relationship. I thought of that, too, and I agree, I wouldn't be so disappointed if they did that (I don't want to be kicked out of the cake club either!); I like shocking endings (call me a masochist), I think they have more effect in you... *hides in shame* But I wouldn't mind a happy ending, though. I wouldn't buy the "I don't love you" thing, it makes no sense, after all they went through, Ruth wouldn't do that to him, she would have been more direct if that was the case. I WILL be disappointed in this case!! And I also agree with you that she wouldn't be with him only because he loves her and she loved him in return (this reminds me of Moulin Rouge "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is to love and be loved in return). It has been said before, but what was the point in bringing Ruth back, torture Harry? "Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt" Pactum serva |

Season 10 doesn't have to be angst ridden again, but perhaps sees them finding comfort and friendship with each other again. Now that would be super to watch. I think it works 2 ways in terms of storylines, If they continued S10 with them not together there could be some great stories running from it, but there could also be some great storylines if they did get together as well, it would just take a change of direction, Sometimes, they actually act as if they were together, those small scenes, like back in 8.8 on the rooftop and moments in S9, I can't see it making a lot of difference whether they are together or not, they are still going to feel the same, but Ruth doesn't see it that way, I think she believes that if she and Harry were together things would change,.. but as long as they act professional on The Grid, would it really effect them? Having them together could pose new problems for them in S10 instead of having the angst they had in S9, and there's been 2 Series since Ruth's return with the whole Will they/Won't they.. surely it's time to move on, take a step forward... please Kudos I still think Ruth is in love with Harry, lets hope the writters think the same I wouldn't be annoyed at the whole "getting together then being killed" but it would be nice to have a happy ending for once. I agree with Beatriz, I also don't buy the whole "I don't love you" thing, other wise why torture poor Harry, have him hanging only to find out he sacrificed his job, his life for nothing... and could Ruth really be so cruel, I'd find it very OOC You and I...We're made of secrets-Ruth Evershed S10 "If it was up to me and Peter they'd have done it loads by now"- Nicola Walker |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
I also like the idea of one of them dying at the end of S10... sorry to be horribly masochistic! There are a couple of nice (if not rather cliché) ways it could be written as well. I quite like the idea of Harry sacrificing himself for Ruth, or vice versa. Even if they don't have a proper 'relationship' in the conventional sense of the word, to give their life for the other really would be an ultimate act of love. Ruth sacrificed her life in Cyprus along with her lover and step-son (my memory is failing me so correct me if she was living somewhere else) for Harry, so it would draw a nice parallel if Harry were to somehow sacrifice more for Ruth than just his career.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
Well, when your career is all you have it's a pretty big thing to give up. But Harry is willing to sacrifice much more than his career for Ruth. In season 5 he went to jail to save her, until Ruth decided that the better option was for her to fake her own death and disappear. All that was done without informing Harry, so that he could do nothing about it by the time he found out. And remember, this time round he also could go to jail.
Something that I find it interesting to think about, is whether people have a choice in what they do or whether they're forced into it. In season 5 both Ruth and Harry consciously chose to sacrifice themselves for each other. They both had other options there. But in season 8 Ruth did not choose to sacrifice her life in Cyprus - it was taken from her. Hence her struggle to come to terms with it. Would she have chosen to sacrifice that life to save Harry if she was given a choice? I don't know. In season 9 we once again have Harry choosing to save Ruth, when he had other options. But I don't necessarily want this to turn into a competition to see which of them could sacrifice more than the other. We know by now they're both willing to give up everything for the other. I'd now like to see them give up their fears of commitment for each other. |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
I am realising that the problem that I have with all this is that never in my life have I believed so much in the "reality" of any screen characters. Ruth in particular is so real to me. I'm sure it's down to the brilliance of the actors. All this glib talk of "yeah, it would be ok if they died, as long as it was in a cool way", is actually quite distressing me! These are "real" people that I love, I just can't countenance the thought of them being written off in this way . I just hope that the programme makers and writers feel as protective of them as I do.

The scenes in S9, particularly in ep 3 I like the most between them. They find a new facit of their relationship. Finding comfort and friendship would be great to watch. |

I don't need them married or even living together. I just want their intellectual/philisophical connection to stay the focus of their relationship as whole. Writing-wise. Well put Obsession. I'd like to see more of that too. I thought S9 developed the relationship a lot. I guess that "adult" and "mature" aspect is what I like the most. I mean "adult" as in the passion of youth fades but what you are left with is companionship, friendship, comfort, respect, etc. I guess they lack somewhat in the companionship area though. Funnily enough, I felt that S9 didn't have a cliff hanger, but Ruth has turned into my cliff hanger. Something happened for her at the end of S9 after Harry took off to meet Lucas. I know she cares deeply for Harry. Am not sure she loves him in quite the same way he loves her. Whether she does or doesn't, what is she going to do about it? The ball is most definitely in her court.... Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
Yes, I agree with you, A Cousin, there is a cliff hanger for all us Harry and Ruth fans. I still can't make my mind up whether Ruth was crying for Harry or Lucas. My first instinct was that it was a release from too much pent up emotion. For me, it represents a turning point in Ruth, a cathartis if you like. When she called Harry as he was about to leave, I thought she finally understood what Harry had had to go through when she was in danger.
