RE: Episode 3 = Best episode of all time!!
Freakish memory strikes again. You beat me to it actually - I adored that choice.
I agree that Ruth's made strides these last years. But life back on the Grid may prove very different. Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature |

RE: Episode 3 = Best episode of all time!!
I found the episode very interesting. I actually thought it was good that they spent a bit more time with the terrorists than shows normally do, otherwise they just become cardboard caricatures. If you know a little more about them, your emotional investment in the eventual outcome is bigger. The premise was an interesting one, and the showtrials on the internet was, I thought, an interesting touch. Also thought it was telling that so many people actually voted in this macabre game - that was a great commentary on the fabric of society today.
Things I loved: - Ruth is back on the Grid, and her first words to Harry are "You Look flustered." Great stuff. Also loved Harry's comment on the basket of muffins, and Ruth saying "You really shouldn't have." Lol. - Harry confiding in Ruth as soon as she is back. No matter what the status of their personal relationship, they always had absolute trust in each other professionally. That was a great touch. - Ros playing that girl, and giving her the evil eye for most of the episode. I've seen others complaining that Ros was too quiet, but honestly, she had no choice really. She tried to play the only card available to her - turning the girl's sympathies. - Harry getting Ruth a chair so she could sit down next to Tariq, and just generally the gentle and compassionate way he treated Ruth throughout the episode. - The way Jo's death played out - the understanding between her and Ros, the communication with only the eyes and Ros' devastation at Jo's death and her role in it. - Absolutely loved the last scene between Harry and Ruth. It showed that although they had made progress with their professional relationship, they are still very much at sea in their personal relationship. And I think that's accurate. They probably haven't talked much since the mutual apologies last week, instead using Jo as go-between. Now Jo is dead after Harry sent her in there, so obviously Harry can't just walk up to Ruth and hug her in my opinion. Like Nitrus said, that last shot was beautifully done. I hated: - Sarah asking Lucas to come over for a booty call. - The swimming pool scene was a little lame in my opinion. We only got to see the pasty Russian almost nude - they could've at least put Lucas in one too! |

Loved the fast pace, hated the way the CIA was steamrolling, after all the HS is a minister?! who is this CIA man to yell and threaten him?! Not plausible...
Sad to lose Jo. She was very good for the Grid, a voice of reason. Poor Ros will not get over this too easily. But the grid is almost empty now! Hate the Sarah-Lucas thingy. Worked with Tom-Christine, not here. Lucas is great, but not Sarah Bring back Tom Quinn!! |

I think that it would have been risky to go for a headshot. The target is so much smaller and too easily mobile. Jo was holding his upper torso in place, but his head could bob about all over the place like a rubber duck at a fairground. He still had his finger on the trigger of the bomb. If she missed, or if he moved, they'd all have been dead. (Also, a successful headshot would mean that Jo would have had to find some way to die of natural causes in the last twenty seconds of the episode so that Miranda Raison could go off to film "Married, Single, Other" and "Heaven and Earth"!)
Spoiler: show |

Spooks is the only BBC drama that hasn't gone downhill this year/2008 and if they repeat Tom and Christine's storyline - I will be on the verge of giving up hope on Spooks. And does no one else think that Sarah is just Christine with curly hair and slightly more 'Sarah-Jessica-Parker' ??? :O *cries* Still, Lucas methinks has a bit more class than that. Did everyone see how he practically blanked Sarah when she called? Ada boy I was thinking that for like the next hour as I tried to get off to sleep. Why didn't she go for a headshot? But then again, the risk was just too high. And if we didn't know Jo, would we really begrudge a junior officer over the lives in stake? I know its a terrible thing to say, but people get shot in spooks all the time, and we don't know them, so we don't feel it. Once again, Spooks questions the humanity of our generation |

It's just those little touches that make it work! I was wondering if Ruth would have just ran a mile when Harry said he was trusting her with something that no one else knew - it reminded me of episode 1. She knew something secret, and look how that turned out. DANNY - Placements all over the shop. Back up vehicles, chopper support if we need it. Bomb disposal with a signal jammer for Mary’s trademark remote control blasts. And Tom here’s doing the catering. Mate. You are so covered. |
