RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - A Cousin - 09-10-2010 01:57 PM Right now, and I think this is a function of the plot necessities of 9.1 and the Director of 9.2 and 9.3, the HR development is getting quite a bit of care and feeding. More so than other lines. Not that I'm complaining! RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - SPOOK91 - 09-10-2010 02:00 PM Oh yes most definately. There has been more development in the first few episodes of this series than in the whole of series 8. Also I think that some of it might be to do with the fact that Harry and Ruth are the only "old timers" left really. We don't know much about Dimitri, Beth or Tariq and they are using Harry, Ruth and Lucas to carry the show a little whilst we get used to the newbies. They can't do this without addressing their relationship after all. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - Silktie - 09-10-2010 03:06 PM I have a theory based entirely on wishful thinking and eternal optimism, and a little bit on the things NW said in her interview. Series NW comments on HR relationship in season 9 Spoiler: show Right, bring on the cake then. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - almh - 09-10-2010 03:11 PM The best theories are always based on wishful thinking and eternal optimism I quite like your theory though. I think I will join you all in the Optimists Corner! RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - Tea Lady - 09-10-2010 06:47 PM Series 9 Response to Silktie Spoiler: show RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - Naivety - 09-10-2010 07:09 PM Although I am one of the cake bringing optimists, I have a fear that even if the writers do bring Harry and Ruth together (and I'm sure they will eventually) they won't allow them to have a happy ending. It just doesn't seem to be permitted in drama anymore. I think the better way for Kudos to draw a line under the H/R thread would have been to marry them off and have them working together as normal, but as a married couple, just like Adam and Fiona. Or even as a couple living together. We could still have lovely H and R moments and also had the spats, and the tension when one was in danger. If only - sigh! P.S. please don't kick me out of optimists corner! RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. I'm a huge H/R fan, but I ask you, as a writer (which most of us here are) would you go for the 'happily ever after' when the 'beautifully tragic' is practically writing itself in right front of you? My only consolation at this point is that none of my predictions about the show to date have been correct. Here's hoping... RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - Tea Lady - 09-10-2010 08:37 PM Whenever I am having a crisis of H/R faith, I imagine my favourite couple in the scene at the end of the Shawshank Redemption. It's been a few months and Harry is alone on a beach somewhere in the world, wearing blue shirt and brown shorts. He is painting his boat which is called Catherine and Scarlett is playing in the surf. Then in the distance, Ruth appears. Cardigan slung over her arm. Harry sees her and they both give the most enormous smile as they both realise they have made it. Pactum Serva. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - Naivety - 09-10-2010 08:49 PM Pactum Serva indeed! Thanks, I feel a bit better now. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years. - Beatriz - 09-10-2010 09:10 PM aaaw I love that film, and that's a beautiful way to picture our favourite couple... They deserve more than a normal happy ending, something different, and I like the boat in the beach and the two of them Where's Ruth's cat by the way? So HR shippers have a new warcry |
