RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - bertowud - 19-11-2009 02:01 PM I've seen part of the original series. This new mini series seems to only resemble the original a little. From what I remember, #2 was constantly changing and everyone knew there was an outside world. I have the DVDs and plan to watch the rest of the series shortly. I almost hope Christopher Nolan does a film version as has been rumored. And just a quick confirmation it is just the three two hour episodes. I still haven't watched the third one yet. It's sitting inside my DVR taunting me though. RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - JHyde - 19-11-2009 02:40 PM Chris Nolan would be AWESOME to adapt the original, of which I am a big fan. I knew it was a mini series, I just thought they were going to show one hour every sunday night for six weeks. Enjoy the last ep bertowud! Let me know if it's worth watching. If the first four hours are anything to judge by, just go ahead and skip it and beat yourself in the head with a hammer for a few hours. It would be more entertaining. A Chris Nolan feature would probably be very sweet. He did good by Batman (No, I didn't like either of his Batman films, but he did a good job of using the actual source material. He was true to the spirit of the character.) and The Prestige is one of my favorite films (need to add that one to my list on that thread). If we could just get him to set it up so it all takes place in reverse order like Memento. RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - lwhite53 - 20-11-2009 02:08 AM Finally got around to watching the last two eps. First two are forgetable -- the last one is worth watching and you won't be lost even if you don't bother with the others (which doesn't say much for the series!). The story line with 2's son is pretty good and the acting by McKellen and the guy who plays the taxi driver stands out. Rest of the acting is mediocre. And the ending is seriously cheesy! As bertowud said, there is little resemblance to the original, which always had a sense of subtle menace. No edge-of-the-seat moments here. RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - JHyde - 20-11-2009 02:15 AM I might not bother then. RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - bertowud - 20-11-2009 09:35 AM Yeah, the guy who plays the taxi driver is pretty good. RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - Beatriz - 20-11-2009 12:09 PM I have the two versions of this series, now, what do I do? Watch only the first one? None of them? Are they worth watching? RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - bertowud - 20-11-2009 01:42 PM If you have the one from the 60's watch it first. It's a cult thing, but there are a lot of raving fans. Also, it's inspired many other shows since, including Lost. Patrick McGoohan is great. It may or may not be a sequel to his original series Danger Man in the UK / Secret Agent Man in the US. You don't need to watch it to follow The Prisoner. I keep the original on my iPod and literally watch an episode every time I take my truck in for service, so it will take me 4 or 5 years to finish. If you have the second one watch it afterwards. There are some good parts. Ian McKellen is interesting in anything he's in, even if he is a bit flat in this series. I kind of think of the mini series as the illegitimate child of the original series and another show from my childhood, Fantasy Island. I just wouldn't go out of the way to watch it. RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - JHyde - 20-11-2009 03:02 PM (giggles at bertowud's choice of location for watching Prisoner.) I love the original series. It smacks of afternoon TV during summer holidays, and I really enjoyed it/ I haven't watched it since I was maybe 13 but I loved it. It was one of the few shows my brothers and I agreed upon. RE: The New Prisoner Mini Series - bertowud - 20-11-2009 03:10 PM Well, I feel trapped there, so it feels very appropo. |
