RE: One of the best series? - Lucasfan - 20-10-2009 03:17 PM 7 is brilliant...I agree that knowing more of the backstory to the characters makes a big difference....I think it probably is my favourite.......but of course if the rumours are true 8 promises to be even better....... wonder if we'll ever see it...... RE: One of the best series? - JHyde - 23-10-2009 05:49 PM I loved this season, probably joint second fave with season 5. Season 4 is the best I think. I also love seeing Harry in the field or under pressure. My two favourite bits in 7.8 are when Harry puts the tie back on after killing the guy (and then wearing it while talking to the Home Sec) and at the beginning of the episode when you find out that the Russian operation is called Tiresias compared to the rather wimpy name Sugarhorse. "And it's bigger. And better." Some of the best moments in the show involve Harry outside the Grid (4.9, 6.8, 7.7, 7.8). Spoiler: show RE: One of the best series? - sam b - 24-10-2009 09:36 PM I think the pace of series seven was very slow at first but once we hit epi four onwards it got much better and gripping especially seven and eight,Adam dying like that was brill tho I was screaming nooooooooooooooo at the telly. RE: One of the best series? - JHyde - 29-10-2009 11:53 AM There's nowhere really to put this, so I'm putting it here. In episode 7, I find it so moving when the Home Secretary and then again when Ros come in, that Harry stands up as a courtesy and a mark of respect. It actually made me catch my breath and sob a little the first time I saw it. That is so typical. I wish I knew if it was in the script, or if it was a choice Peter Firth or the director made. And I love that he's listening to Requiem when he's looking at that fake dossier - a lovely hark back to 3.5 with Ruth in St Martin's Fields/Danny on the boat. RE: One of the best series? - almh - 29-10-2009 01:44 PM I think that the best series would have to be series 7 and 4. 4 simply had some absolutely amazing stories in, and 7... well, I just really enjoyed it. The ongoing tension, the whole thing with someone being a mole, who was it? was really good. Series 8 will hopefully be even better though RE: One of the best series? - JHyde - 29-10-2009 02:05 PM I'm with you on that. Seven just built up really nicely, although I'm not sure I bought the fall in 7.5 of the Secret Marxist. For me, the best of Spooks requires a suspension of belief, but not complete implausibility. I think seasons 2 and 6 do it much less successfully than others. RE: One of the best series? - Lucasfan - 30-10-2009 02:37 PM My region 2 DVD set finally arrived today, but as if that wasn't reason enough to celebrate, the commentaries and interviews included as extras offered a brilliant insight into the making of this series.....fascinating hearing all the behind the scenes considerations that went on! worth every penny! RE: One of the best series? - almh - 30-10-2009 07:52 PM Oooooh!!! RE: One of the best series? - JHyde - 30-10-2009 09:47 PM Damn, I was going to ask if you guys had extras. The series 7 DVD that came out a few months back region 4 has none. What's on the extras exactly? RE: One of the best series? - Lucasfan - 31-10-2009 04:52 AM The extras are... Behind the scenes documentary, "Spooks in Russia" behind the scenes in Moscow, Episode 6 "action sequence" featurette - the fight in the scrapyard Audio commentaries ep 5 & 8 (the writers, directors and the series producer) Cast interviews (Harry, Ros, Jo, Lucas, Ben) Original trailer Have watched them all and they are excellent....I already had the region 4 set, but ordered the region 2 set for the extras.......well worth it IMVHO! This presentation of this new set makes the region 4 set look like a hastily produced rush job, which I suppose it was! |
