RE: Proms? - Nia M - 04-07-2010 08:05 PM I've never had a 'prom' per se, but at the end of Year 11 we had our 'Leaver's Ball' (basically prom with a flashy name), and then we had the Sixth Form Dinner Dance at Christmas. I believe next year at the end of Upper Sixth we get the Boat Trip on the Thames - looking forward to that!! Don't actually have any pictures on this comp of either events, but this is my leaver's ball dress (obv. not with me in it though ) RE: Proms? - YourFutureMuse - 05-07-2010 11:48 AM Oooh that dress is gorgeous Nia! RE: Proms? - A Cousin - 06-08-2010 07:08 PM I know its over now, but consider this idea for a dress/tux next year. (It's incredibly creative!) http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/beauty/sticky-competition-duct-tape-dress-a-winner-at-prom-2208542/#photoViewer=9 RE: Proms? - deebab - 07-08-2010 09:37 AM I didnt have a prom. They weren't the done thing when I left school over 20yrs ago(swiftly moving on now you guys have made me feel so old) We didnt even really have a leaving disco & although lots of my friends went on to further education I actually went straight out to work so I didn't get a gap between sitting the exams and starting a job. I was also at work when the exam results were released so again I didnt get to meet up with all the other people who went into the school to collect them. RE: Proms? - Mrs Pearce - 07-08-2010 11:00 AM I didn't have a prom either, when I left school some 20+ years ago. We did go to the local pub though for an afternoon of drinking, which in a small village isn't as exciting as it sounds! RE: Proms? - JHyde - 07-08-2010 11:03 PM deedab, I'm really sympathetic with your story because mine was pretty similar - I ended up getting sick a few months after school finished because I was working so much. I did manage to get to my formal though and I'm glad I did. RE: Proms? - lbarnes2 - 08-08-2010 08:33 AM We didn't so much have a "prom" as what year 11s these days describe as a "party"! A group of us opted to pass on said "party" and go for a nice, civilised trip on the canals with tea and scones, followed by a meal. Was really good fun actually, I feel I'll still remember it in the future, which in my opinion is the general point of the 'leaver's day'. |
