Sure. Why not? Its happened before. Series 3 Spoiler: show And it worked out just fine! I have always been able to learn to love again. That is part of what keeps the show fresh. I only wish that they had spent some time in S8 to introduce a new character rather than a general influx in S9. Hopefully, they will draw it out over the full series and not introduce all of them in the first ep. However, as much as I "appreciate" RA's "talents" and would like to see that character develop much further, I am not sure I would feel the same if Harry were the one on the line though, but PF has made it pretty clear that he is in until its dying breath - no pun intended. (OK, maybe just a little. ) RE: Series 9 Rumours & Speculation - BravoNine - 16-07-2010 05:33 PM (16-07-2010 05:11 PM)A Cousin Wrote:(16-07-2010 02:29 PM)BravoNine Wrote: What are they trying to do, clean the Grid again of old timers and fill it with newbies? I don't mind them bringing in new fresh blood, actually I would welcome that. But there is transition, and then there is an exodus. There is balance, then there is let's kill the old and bring in the new. I just don't want it to be a mass flood of newbies coming in and the established cast being thrown aside. The way Spooks has brought in newbies has been very well done and the transition as worked well, they were able to kind of draw it out and give sometime for the newbies to develope before old ones go, the one I remember was a nice transition with Adam to Lucas. And at least there was still some old timers around to kinda direct the transition, it's not just all newbies in one episode and old ones gone in a blink. Although I do feel the need to mention that before, those character transitions are kind of nice and spread out throughout the whole season, normally one or two characters killed, a few new ones brought in. This time worries me because apparently 5 new cast members are joining, that's more newbies brought in than I have seen before. But also I guess maybe not all 5 of them will be operatives, we know Max Brown and Sophia Myles are definite ones, as for the other 3 are still kinda unknown, so maybe they are techie people or government people. I don't mind them bringing in the new characters at all, I just hope they will write them in as well as they had written in the new characters before in the past. New blood certainly keeps a show like Spooks fresh, and I love that about the show, I want them to write it good. And as for the whole Lucas situation, again, I don't want it to be a whole "we got newbies, let's make Lucas the bad guy", that would certainly not endear me to the new characters. I mean, I know Harry, Ruth, and Tariq are still around, but those characters don't really change as much like the field operatives like Ros and Lucas do, and with good reasons, but bringing in new field agents, I do want to see some good character development, not just some crazy action hero. And to be honest, I don't even mind a whole Lucas Is A Traitor storyline as long as they write it well, as long as they give a good and plausible reason for his betrayal. So really, in the end, the situation with the new cast and the Lucas storylines is all down to the writing. If the writing is good, then I would have no problem with the changes. But the worse that could happen is if the writers don't write the transitions well. So basically, it's all up to the writers. RE: Series 9 Rumours & Speculation - Kazters - 16-07-2010 06:07 PM i have to agree the influx of new people in one go is worrying expecialy for the cast we already have RE: Series 9 Rumours & Speculation - TygerBright - 16-07-2010 06:29 PM (16-07-2010 05:33 PM)BravoNine Wrote: And to be honest, I don't even mind a whole Lucas Is A Traitor storyline as long as they write it well, as long as they give a good and plausible reason for his betrayal. My thoughts exactly. He's such an interesting character who has always had a certain ambiguity about him, and while I, personally, prefer him to be a "white hat guy" with a few dark patches & scratches, I wouldn't mind if he went full-on dark side as long as he has good reasons... and I could think of a few. Bit like a football match - as long as it's exciting and reasonably fair, I don't care much who wins (well, mostly ) One thing though - I feel we haven't seen enough of Luc.. let me rephrase that - there are still so many things we (I) need to find out about him. We've barely scratched the surface of the mystery that is Mr. North. It would be unfair to discard him after series 9... As for the coming and going - I assume in the Spooks' line of work, a certain steady flux, in either direction, is inevitable. A mass dump or swap of main players though would disrupt the flow.. and without Ros, Section D is already severely under-staffed. Losing Lucas too would force Harry back in the field (y'know, sans tie, open-collared white shirt, dark coat, black leather gloves, gun, jumping into a car, driving off, tyres squealing... and a glass of whiskey after the job's done ) I don't think all 5 newbies will be working for Harry, or MI5 for that matter... New players can be good, as long as they're bled in slowly and reasonably...(sorry about the footie analogies, I'm still trying to keep my mind off the Lucas' conundrum..) RE: Series 9 Rumours & Speculation - Naivety - 16-07-2010 06:48 PM RA is a very successful actor and is unlikely to want to stay with Spooks for ever. It would be plausible for him to be looking for his next project during the next twelve months. Much as it would be sad to lose another established spook, presumaby by the end of Series 9 one of the new characters will have become a favourite with the fans, so making any exit by RA more bearable. Yes, please! RE: Series 9 Rumours & Speculation - TygerBright - 16-07-2010 07:09 PM as far as I can see it from here, the only one with potential to become a new favourite is Max Brown. And while he might be .. dishy, and a good actor, and will more than likely make a good Spook, he would never replace Lucas in my heart (and head). Still, I could understand if RA would like to move on, and most Spooks regulars (except Harry) have done so after a few seasons, but I don't think he t approached TPTB to ask for an exit. He just said something to the extent that he wouldn't be surprised by/could live with the decision to deep-fry/shoot/steam-roller/chain-him-to-the-bottom-of-a-shark-infested-tank Lucas.. and that he wouldn't want to be told in advance. By now he might have found out. If so, I pray he keeps it to himself. More suspense and dropped hints I couldn't handle. They haven't disappointed us (much) in the past. Although the idea of a shark tank in interesting.... RE: Series 9 Rumours & Speculation - BravoNine - 16-07-2010 08:03 PM I agree with TygerBright that we haven't learn enough of Lucas, there is so much more they can do with this character through his imprisonment, his relationships with everyone both in Moscow and in MI5, and his old life before he was captured, and the fact that he's got such a long history with Harry and MI5 makes it that much more interesting. I really want to see this Harry/Lucas relationship developed more, they say Lucas used to be the best, he was Harry's protege, clearly something must have clicked for them for that bond to work. At least before Lucas goes away for good, resolve the Harry/Lucas relationship so that we know where each of them stand. Okies, no more ideas for the writers to bite on, next thing we know, we will be seeing Lucas in a shark tank, and as amusing as it sounds, I really would like Lucas to be alive. RE: Series 9 Rumours & Speculation - TygerBright - 16-07-2010 08:08 PM ..who says the sharks would win?! Very true Lucas has great survival skills, after all, he lived through the 8 years in a Russian prison! But still, I have learned my lessons with giving writers ideas. They tend to run it in the opposite direction of what you want and drives you to insanity! By the way, where would they even find shark-infested waters? Are they gonna start seizing aquariums for interrogation purposes? |
