Have to agree about Sarah Caulfield although that could be a bonus for thew show if she becomes someone everyone loves to hate.

Just watched this episode and absolutely loved it! It had some amazing one liners, and I could actually laugh during this one! (Compared to the last one when I was closer to crying.) I liked how they didn't manage to get away without a scrape, and that there was a lot of double-crossing and personal agendas. It was a good episode, Tariq is a good addition to the team, and the moments with Ruth in were believable. At least we've got rid of Nico! (My main concern Wink )

You couldn't hold out could you almh?

And I forgot to say how much I enjoyed Jo's legend as Camilla Hamilton-Bligh.

Nooooo! lol, I couldn't. I've been bugging my mum ever since 10pm last night to know when I could watch it!

I know spoilers are a bad thing....

but the flip-side of this particular coin is that I'll be watching this tomorrow, and going through all these posts, I have a good idea of all the good bits to look out for! [Image: wink.gif]

Ruth's not actually being married is an interesting tell. She's highly principled and her inability to blithely lie separates her from the rest of the group. I think her moral code wouldn't allow her to marry someone she didn't really love -- that's the answer to Harry's question in ep 1.

Did anyone else notice that the names of both men in Ruth's life (Harry and George) are also the names of NW's son -- started as George, became Harry?

RE: Episode 2 Discussion - almh - 07-11-2009 03:04 PM

I wonder if that was the real reason they never married, but what always confused me was why didn't she say that she wasn't married? And she can lie - in 4.10 we find out that she can lie brilliantly, and she manages to lie convincingly to one of the best spooks the service had seen. It's just her moral code that stops her from doing it. But I think she could have married him, because she truly believed that there was no way she could have been with Harry.

Glad she changed his name then! Wink

I agree almh, I'm not sure that was the reason they didn't marry. We don't actually know how long they were together - Ruth couldn't have been away more than 2 1/2 years, so she and George couldn't have been together much more than 2 of them, I suspect.

RE: Episode 2 Discussion - lwhite53 - 07-11-2009 03:15 PM

Yes, she did lie in 4.10 but only after serious pressure from Harry to do so. And she was guilty as hell afterward.

RE: Episode 2 Discussion - almh - 07-11-2009 03:18 PM

Doesn't mean that she can't lie. It was also under completely different circumstances. She was basically going to destroy Angela's life, no wonder she felt a little bit guilty afterwards.
