RE: Death of Adam - Adam Carter - 23-11-2009 08:33 PM

I think Adam HAD to die, eventually. It didn't have to happen then and there, but it was inevitable.

The whole hook to Adam's character was that he was a huge risk-taker. Go back to when Oliver Mace dubbed him a "loose cannon". Then look at the way Adam carried himself as a leader. He was always taking chances, always coming up with left-field ideas, and always narrowly escaping death.

He and Fiona, before she died, always talked about how reckless they both were. It was who they were as people. Ros had a brilliant quote about it in 7.2 where she says that Adam once told her he knew the job would kill him someday, but that it "gave him a rush".

Adam was the type of person who literally lived on the edge. And he knew one day, his luck was going to run out. That's what makes his death all the more poetic. If Adam was going to die, or leave the show, this was exactly how it was going to happen. And he KNEW that.

Absolutely. And the argument against how Adam died is that he probably should have left the car ten seconds or so before he did, with the risk of maybe 1 or 2 civilian casualties. But he didn't.

It was the best possible way to see the character out, I completely agree. His bravery had the flip side of also being reckless at times, as we saw on many occasions, and it was completely appropriate how they wrote him out.

i knew this was comming and put off watching it! i dragged out s6! i love adam carter i love how flawed he is, i lovd how he loves people but cant bare to tell them. his death was fitting i thought, i mean adam was never going to die from old age! but it seemed such a waste if only he wasnt wearing the seatbelt, or that he had stopped a few seconds before he did.

the site of harry telling wes was heartbreaking! as was ros wrecking adams flat! i for one am going to miss him! ;(

7.1 was my first episode, so I wasn't that attached to Adam, although I did really like him.

I think I was more bummed by the fact that Lucas and Adam wasn't going to have a real friendship, which was a shame because Richard and Rupert seem to get on really well and their characters seem to fit perfectly together in all the action scenes. If Rupert had stayed, I think Adam and Lucas could have great potential in being good friends and teammates.

^^ Likewise. Well, it was the fist full episode I watched. Nevertheless, I do agree Big Grin

i think looking bacl (im flicking through s6 again) it was enevitable that this was going to happen to him! i think that there are so many if he didnt do... moments he wouldnt have died, i.e. not wearing seatbelt, not skidding the car ETC.

They did have good banter between each other adam and Lucas, i think perhaps adam was aware of him
but not 100% he certainly told him abotu how he was recruted which we hadnt seen/heard before

I still find adams death quite sad, especialy when he looked so happy to see ros moments before

RE: [spoiler] Adam Carter - Nia M - 11-07-2010 12:21 PM

I think stopping to talk to Ros was what clinched it Sad The seatbelt didn't make much of a difference, and (but I'm no expert on cars - haven't even had a single driving lesson yet) maybe the manoevring he did was necessary to stop it where he needed to?

RE: [spoiler] Adam Carter - Kazters - 11-07-2010 12:25 PM

me either it just looked full of making it look good! i think he really thought he was going to get out of there!

that look he gives her when he sees her;(

RE: [spoiler] Adam Carter - Jhokur - 12-07-2010 12:08 AM

The slide he made was to keep the car towards the middle of the park combined with the wet ground (from what I can discern). Adam's concern was everyone else's safety over his own - otherwise I'd imagine he would have ditched it in a car park.

RE: [spoiler] Adam Carter - Kazters - 12-07-2010 06:57 AM

yeah cos harry told him to ditch the car but he said no cos inosent people would be hurt thats very adam!

its the sight of Harry telling Wes about his dad that i find so very sad (that and rols totaly loosing control and wrecking his flat!)
