I think there is a parallel being drawn between Lucas and Ruth at the very least insofar as they have both had other lives and another selves. Lucas' guilt is being revealed slowly but I do have questions about Ruth.

When did she learn Chinese? Is there a reason she magically knows Chinese or was it just put in for the "But my Cantonese is horrible" joke and maybe a little character development for Ruth who cannot see her won value?

Why does she know Mandarin (common language) and Wu (primarily spoken in Shanghai, the most populated city in China and rival with Hong Kong as economic capital of China) but is not so hot with her Cantonese (primarily spoken in Hong Kong)?

What happened during those 3 years she was gone? Did she head as far west as she could go without actually being in the east and spend all of it in Cyprus or did she wander for a bit and land in Cyprus. If she went straight there, she would have had to have been in Cyprus long enough to meet George, but maybe George met her elsewhere and brought her there? Yeah, I know - blame the dead guy. Wink

Why Cyprus? A country very close to Turkey, Syria and Lebanon (we know that she speaks Arabic) and with friendly diplomatic relations with China? AKA "the crossroads of three continents"?

I also cannot seem to think of the word traitor in the standard sense, e.g. for revenge or to dominate the world or to get better seats at a Manchester United game, what have you. I think it very possible that both them have been embroiled in something much bigger than even Harry and MI5? Maybe Ruth is protecting Harry like Lucas is protecting Maya? From what? I dunno. My brain can't take the speculation anymore. But the possibility is there.

One thing is for sure in my mind, we are being lead down the garden path with both of them. It could be just as simple and obvious as Lucas' past life is so horrible that he has to betray everything he stood for and Ruth is just being good old dogged, loyal, and brilliant Ruth, but when have the writers ever done anything simple and obvious? And would we really want them to?

That's a fantastic post A Cousin! I don't want to agree, but Ruth being a traitor could be possible, there is nothing impossible in Spooks (this hurts so much, sorry Ruth), I think everybody could be if there is a good motive behind.

I also agree with Tea Lady's post on the Episode 9.6 discussion that Lucas can't get away with all that he has done, Lucas has made some terrible decissions thus far... If Ruth turns out to be the traitor and behind all this, Lucas hasn't been a saint...

Right, *tries to calm down* this is either the WORST TYPO EVER by Whats on TV magazine or this is the biggest spoiler for S9 ever. You have been warned if you look at this. I have emailed the magazine to ask if it is indeed a typo but as this was after 5pm, they may have gone home.

It must be a typo IMO surely? There is no other mention of Ruth really in this article. It should say Ros surely? Would Peter really spill the beans like that !!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Spooks is going to kill me...

EDIT: This link was amended later by the magazine (see my post below.) It did say Ruth. Obviously this is now not correct so I wont bother with tags anymore.

OK, that's clearly a typo but on the overall pain level of not knowing what's coming next and being fed tidbits like this...

IT HAS TO BE A TYPO, TL, DO YOU HEAR ME? The more I read it the more sure I am about it, Ros is mention in the first answer and her death, and Peter Firth talks about Harry taking revenge. There's no mention of Ruth in the interview, you can't write SUCH A SPOILER and then don't talk about it. It must be wrong, it HAS TO BE WRONG!!! *goes to make more cake* *snif*

RA is wearing the hoodie/jacket combo that is in all the spoiler pics for 7 & 8. It also shows Eps 7&8 on the clapperboard as they snoop on a scene he is in. You're right, Squashyjoshy. I'd forgotten about that photo. Lucas may not be working for them, but it's certainly linked.

Does anyone else expect to sleep for the next 10 days?
