RE: Episode 2 Discussion - almh - 08-11-2009 10:49 AM That would be just as awesome bickering as Ruth and Ros! No, I can see it now. Malcolm being put out that a person who wonders around in t-shirts and whose idea of checking if microphones work is saying "What's the time Mr Wolf," instead of using call-signs has replaced him Just remembered - did anyone else just go AWWWW when Harry was talking to Jo, asking her to talk to Ruth, and Jo says that she will, his reaction! "Good!" Awww... He just sounds so relieved... RE: Episode 2 Discussion - Silktie - 08-11-2009 11:44 AM I thought they handled Tariq's introduction well in the sense that they didn't make a big fuss about it. They subtly made it clear that he would not get the team's respect for free, but would have to earn it. Harry pointedly ignored him in one scene, and Ros was rude about him, and only Lucas who actually benefited from his genius gave him the time of day. I'm also interested to see the future Ros/Ruth interaction. I don't think there will be overt dislike, but I definitely see potential for operational disagreements that would put Harry in the middle of it. And since he's not exactly Mr Subtle in such situations, he's bound to piss off one or the other. Can't wait. RE: Episode 2 Discussion - almh - 08-11-2009 11:46 AM I loved Ros's comment "What is that?" about Tariq! Just made me laugh so much. "Good!" Awww... He just sounds so relieved... Yeah, I did too. Poor Harry seems really lost as to how to deal with Ruth at the moment, and I think he probably believes that Ruth will refuse to come back to the Grid on principle if he was the one doing the asking. RE: Episode 2 Discussion - JHyde - 08-11-2009 11:53 AM I agree Silktie. This was where it was heading before she left, and their personalities and how they operate are so different, this was bound to happen anyway. Something that would really funny and lovely, but they simply wouldn't have time for, is that if Fidget has died of all age (as well as the other un-named cat), Harry could take her to an animal shelter to get another. Ruth would want an adopted cat, not something out of a shop. Can you imagine Harry's discomfort? RE: Episode 2 Discussion - almh - 08-11-2009 11:54 AM He probably does! Poor Harry And poor Ruth. They both lost a lot in 5.5., and are both still hurting from 8.1. Ruth would want an adopted cat, not something out of a shop. Can you imagine Harry's discomfort? I can see Harry worrying that Ruth would think the cats died because he didn't look after them properly, and not wanting to give her something else to hate him for, buying others that look more or less the same, and trying to fob them off as the original ones. Ruth, of course, wouldn't be fooled for a second, leaving poor Harry even deeper in trouble. RE: Episode 2 Discussion - JHyde - 08-11-2009 12:23 PM I know. I often find myself thinking about what happens to Harry's dog (and the cats if they're still kicking) when he gets nicked off for interrogation for a few days, or stays on the Grid for a few days without sleep. I guess in the latter case they dispatch a Sam like character to get it done. On the issue of Sarah Caulfield. I don't care if her accent isn't authentic (and I'm pretty pedantic). She's much less offensive to listen to than Christine Dale - and that was the actress' real speaking voice. Tariq's fun and very likeable. But given that Lucas encouraged Ros to "break him in" on the job in the hotel, it looks like they're sending him in on missions too. Setting up a possible undercover job perhaps? Poor guy. Just because he's their token minority guy, he'll be running tech support while he's snopping around the cell he's infiltrating! That's why I never bought the story that he was a replacement for Malcolm, rather than complementary. I think Harry should gave her a cat as Birthday present, for example, I love the bit on Harry's diary Spoiler: show RE: Episode 2 Discussion - almh - 08-11-2009 12:30 PM His diary is so sweet! Especially the part when it's talking about Ruth leaving. I don't think the cats have died - I wonder if they mention them at all in this series, lol. |
