RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - Silktie - 12-02-2010 05:47 PM Well, to be fair, did we really see much of anyone's life outside the Grid apart from Lucas and that ill-advised affair with Sarah? RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - Tea Lady - 12-02-2010 05:52 PM Nitrus, give the poor girl a chance. She has only been back one series and back at MI5 for 6 episodes. She may not even have a house yet and be staying in a safe house. Her whole life has been ruined. What more of her life is there to see? It isnt a very happy one at the moment. Ruth has always fed off Harry. I dont see series 8 being that much different to series 3, 4, or 5 in that respect. Also I dont see what is wrong with it anyway, Ruth being centered around Harry. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - Silktie - 13-02-2010 05:00 PM So, do you think Harry and Ruth go in for Valentine's Day? RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - lwhite53 - 13-02-2010 05:03 PM Nope! Too commercial, too gaudy, too obvious. But I bet they think about each other that day. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - YourFutureMuse - 13-02-2010 05:27 PM Explaining my choice re: poll... I did vote for 'Old, decrepit and just wrong' I'm afraid This may be a bit strong for describing my view but I definitely don't think they are 'The greatest thing since the turbine engine' specifically in s8. I really did like ruth and harry in s5 and if I had voted after reading JHyde's or Nia's fic or watching Kirayuki's video I may have had a different vote ( very fickle me ) I don't see how HR could work if they were together (I love to see it in fics but I really imagine Harry and Ruth being destined for singledom forever...) I mean if they got together would they just go for dates or what, like marriage, partnership, move in together I just don't see how that would fit into the Spooks programme - give me an explosion over a lovey dovey scene any day (Okay maybe one obvious exception but I prefer my love interests combined with sex and lies ) I really liked the way the Spooks storyline was left in S5 and I don't know perhaps all the HR relationship should have been left as 'something wonderful that was never said' rather than dredging it all up again? Not that I don't love the return of the character Ruth Anyway, hope that isn't all just incoherent babble and I don't get too slaughtered by all you HR lot I am after open for conversion ( and even more so every fic and video I read/ watch ) RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - JHyde - 13-02-2010 05:42 PM It's OK, Musey. I shall show you it can be done and in character. Re: Valentine's Day. Probably not. Maybe an extra smile or two. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - Silktie - 13-02-2010 06:12 PM Not trying to be snide or anything, but I'm genuinely curious to know whether those that don't want HR together are against any happy relationship in Spooks, or just these two? Would it make a difference if it were Lucas with somebody, for instance? YFM, see last night's discussion with Nitrus a page or so back for our arguments in favour of HR. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - Nitrus - 13-02-2010 07:25 PM I'm generally against any happy relationship in Spooks for reasons I have previously stated. I think I particularly don't want HR together because there seems to be this obsession with a lot of fans, and it seems to be turning into a love story for them, rather than a spy story. I've always been one to detest things that are overhyped (Twilight for example), I think this carries through with Spooks.. HR is wayy too overhyped, if they got together it would leave thousands of fans smiling and happy at the end of the episode. That's not what Spooks is for me, I love it because it leaves a foul taste in my mouth occasionally and always leaves me shocked or worried for the next episode. Spooks is not a show for happy endings, why should HR be different? RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - YourFutureMuse - 13-02-2010 07:45 PM I don't know if it is about happy endings but I think I agree with Nitrus about the hype. I did like Adam and Fiona and they were happy (well until they both died but hey ho it is spooks after all) However I can imagine if Adam and Fiona had been a major storyline for a long time I would've got bored of it... If they must have a love interest then I think it should be some one fresh and sparkly new As for happy endings who's to say if HR got together, it would end well? Is it going to be just continuous little moments leading to nothing or if they are going to have some sort of relationship, I really just can't see it? RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - Beatriz - 13-02-2010 08:50 PM I understand your thoughts about the overhyped and partly the happy endings in Spooks. Spooks never had a perfectly happy ending, ok, but, that doesn't mean we can't have one, or if you like we can have HR exiled but together (that happened to Zoe, damnit!). My point is that every single person in Spooks can't have a horrible ending always!! It's not very believable (sorry for repeating myself) and I do think they can handle this nicely, I'm not asking for a HR series, it's not the usual couple and it maybe fun to develop the relationship, the young sex-based couple is the rule in most series, so to give this one a chance would be a change. Honestly, I can't see the point of having Ruth back and then not having something with Harry; I wouldn't find the explanation of her return. I'm not saying that Ruth can't be a great character without her relationship with Harry, but they could have introduced another different character... (Ithink I'm babling too much, and not sure if everything I've said is nonsense... ). If you want a sad ending, please get them together and if you want kill them both (I don't want that but I prefer this ending rather than nothing at all!) |
