Anybody else going to watch Downton Abbey on ITV1 on Sunday? I'm a bit of a historical period nut and its written by Julian Fellowes who wrote Gosford Park and it has an absolutely stellar cast including Hugh Bonneville and Maggie Smith.

Interested to read your comments on Bouquet of Barbed Wire. Can't wait till we see it over here. Read the book and saw the first TV series years and years ago.
Love Trevor Eve in Waking the Dead. As you know, we are a bit behind you people here in Aus.
There is a great Danish TV police drama "Anna Pihl" showing on SBS here just now. It's about a female police constable -- single mother, one child, who house shares with a gay guy. Lots of interesting side issues with family and work. Don't know if you see that in the UK.

Bouquet of Barbed Wire was very different for HN. I thought she acted the emotional parts with real intensity. The last episode wasn't as squalid as I expected, especially after the second one. The fact that he was in love sexually with his daughter was very explicit without it actually being shoved down your throat. Although I was squirming when he nearly kissed her in the cafe!! Yuck!
Trevor Eve plays a mixed up, weak character incredibly well! And Hermione Norris is always pushing her boundaries. I first saw her in Wire in the Blood, which has a thread of angst going through it with the Tony Hill character. It's such a pity she didn't continue with that.

I agree that it is a pity that HN couldn't continue with the Wire in the Blood series and that more of the books by Val McDermid haven't been dramatised. On the other hand, perhaps if HN had been involved with Wire in the Blood, we wouldn't have seen her in Spooks.
