Downton Abbey - Beatriz - 16-11-2011 04:07 PM I think there are a few people watching this series and I thought it could have a thread of its own to discuss it. As I've mentioned before I prefered the first series to this second one, it has quality but it's getting nearer and nearer to a soap opera... I love Maggie Smith (nothing new about it), she's fantastic, she doesn't have to say a word to make me laugh, her meaningful looks are so funny! Do we know when the Christmas special will be?? RE: Downton Abbey - Tea Lady - 16-11-2011 08:23 PM Some spoilers if you have not seen series 2 yet. Yes, I still love it but agree series 1 was better than series 2. The whole of WW1 was finished in about 2 hours 45 minutes! Maggie Smith is ace but again I think her lines were more natural in series 1. I thought the writers were trying too hard to think up one liners for her in series 2. I do love almost all the characters though. I think that is the trick. There are so many characters who get an equal amount of screen time, that you are engrossed in several stories at the same time. I love the Bates and Anna relationship too. They seem to be doing a "Harry & Ruth" thing though, with angst at every turn. I am not sure when the Christmas special will be on. The Christmas TV magazines in the UK usually come out at the start of December. I did think ITV quite brave though to show Bates and Anna in bed together... RE: Downton Abbey - Beatriz - 16-11-2011 09:22 PM hahaha I loved that scene between Anna and Bates, it was so sweet Yeah, several characters that I wasn't sure about have grown on me, no not Tomas, I still dislike him, but this curly fringe (O'Brian, right?) was nicer this series, I don't like her yet, though! RE: Downton Abbey - Naivety - 16-11-2011 09:52 PM I have enjoyed Downton, but I do think series 1 was better. I thought that there were too many story lines in this one, it could never settle on anything. There wasn't enough of Brendan Coyle, and also Maggie Smith didn't get enough screen time either. One of my favourite characters this series was Sir Robert Carlyle. I seem to like Iain Glen (I'd love to see him not playing a baddie). I also like Lady Cybil, it's easy to identify with her character. The bedroom scene between Bates and Anna was lovely! RE: Downton Abbey - Beatriz - 22-12-2011 01:16 PM The DA Christmas Special seems promising!!! I've read somewhere that the writers think it's the most emotional episode ever! I'm not sure if I like this statement... RE: Downton Abbey - Tea Lady - 22-12-2011 05:02 PM (22-12-2011 01:16 PM)Beatriz Wrote: The DA Christmas Special seems promising!!! Does Anna get stabbed by Mr Bates' non son, with one of Mrs Patmore's blunt kitchen knives? RE: Downton Abbey - Beatriz - 22-12-2011 07:55 PM Are you watching Dexter or CSI, TL??? RE: Downton Abbey - Tea Lady - 22-12-2011 08:26 PM (22-12-2011 07:55 PM)Beatriz Wrote: Are you watching Dexter or CSI, TL??? Ha! Quite right, Beatriz. Mrs Patmore would never have a blunt knife in her kitchen. RE: Downton Abbey - Silktie - 03-01-2012 04:36 PM I've finally seen this - am up to episode four. I am enjoying it, but find the characters all rather one-dimensional. The good 'uns are all good, and the bad 'uns are all bad. Not a shade of grey to be seen... Still, I'm greatly enjoying Dame Maggie's character and her pissing contest with Mrs Crawley, and the antics of the youngest sister (I forget her name), but Mary annoys me. All she thinks about is herself. Fantastic scenery, though. What a lovely place! RE: Downton Abbey - Tea Lady - 03-01-2012 07:19 PM If memory serves Silktie, there is some "grey" to come... You can actually go and visit the house and grounds. The website is below. Interestingly though they have not really tried to capitalise on their fame as the location for Downton. The house is still only open a handful of days a year. http://www.highclerecastle.co.uk/ |
