New Doctor Who Discussion - Nitrus - 03-04-2010 06:35 PM
First episode of the new series just finished on BBC1. What did you all think?
I loved it, thought Matt Smith was good in the role and I think he will grow into it more as the series unfolds. The new titles and music were ok, I think they will grow on me after a while.
It was all very well shot as well, the effects where great and the music was superb. Overall a great introduction to the series.
I already have a crush on Amy Pond.

I only watched the second half so I can't really comment on the story but I was impressed with the new doctor so far, didn't think he would be. My only slight complaint would be that i think he is very similar to DT whereas say DT and Chris Eccleston were very different styles of Doctor, Daviid Tennant and Matt Smith seem to have the same geek cool think going on lol
Haha and as I only came in half way through I walked in and was like to my Mum, that police woman's skirt is short I didn't know they were allowed to have short skirts! and she then informed me she was in fact a stripogram haha. Another ginger companion though haha the doc must have a thing for them

I get what you meant about the similarity between MS and DT, but that might wear off as he steps into the role more.
Besides he had just regenerated, DT might still be lingering

I'm so glad to hear that you all enjoyed the first ep and thought MS was great! I don't know when it's going to be aired in Australia yet... I'm impatiently awaiting. I can't wait to see what Steven Moffat does with the show.

I loved the new DW. Thought MS was good with lots of potential. I agree that MS seemed similar to DT as I could picture DT doing all the same actions. Great script and and loved Amy as the new companion.

I really liked that scene where he misses something on the village green and the camera moves around the scene detailing everything and then it goes back to the Doctor. That was a great idea and very well shot and exactly how the Doctor's mind would work!

I liked the bit towards the end when MS is telling the eye that Earth has a protector, cue clips of previous doctors and then MS steps forward. It seemed a nice way of explaining the history of the doctor. Also was it just me or was the eye voiced by Tom Baker?

I can't find anywhere which says who did the voice. But it did sound similar to Tom Baker.
I really liked that scene too, Doctor standing up for the human race.. love it.
