[spoilers] Harry and Ros - JHyde - 10-04-2010 01:12 PM white53 said something really intersting on the Harry adn Lucas thread which is a more succinct version of what I've been trying to say for months. "Harry and Ros had a tighter bond, in many ways, than he did with either Tom or Adam." What do people think of this? I have argued for some time that Harry and Ros have a great deal in common: similar sense of humour, cool under pressure in the field, and the way they appraise risk and return is identical, I reckon. I'm thinking specifically of 8.5 and how Ros talks to her former mentor about what is worth it all. I find they express themselves differently and use different words, but in seasons 7 and 8 I find Harry and Ros very much on the same page. What do you guys think? RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ros - Aria - 10-04-2010 01:58 PM I've always thought that Ros was similar to how Harry must have been as Section Chief - Ruthless and efficient. In seasons 7 and 8 I was pleasantly surprised how their relationship developed and how close they became. Nicholas Blake's line to Ros about "what part of Harry did they clone you from" is an apt one. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ros - JHyde - 10-04-2010 02:07 PM Yeah, that line is equal parts insulting and complimentary. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ros - Silktie - 10-04-2010 04:36 PM Not sure I agree that he has a tighter bond to Ros than the others. I think he was just as close to Adam - he even socialised with him and Wes, and in the end murdered the man who was responsible for Adam's death. And I actually found it a little unbelievable that Harry was suddenly on such close terms with Ros after her return - she did almost get him killed, planted bugs in his office and betrayed them all to Yalta before she had to leave. Perhaps what brought them so close is that both felt Adam's death deeply, but that just strengthens my point that Harry was very close to Adam and considered him a friend. I do agree that the bond between Harry and Tom was not as close as with their successors. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ros - JHyde - 10-04-2010 05:07 PM We might have to see what happens if Ros dies/died to see how Harry reacts to her death, it's true. I definitely am thinking of the more compassionate Ros we saw post Yalta. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ros - lwhite53 - 10-04-2010 06:17 PM Ros, post-Yalta, is more trustworthy as section chief than either Tom or Adam -- she takes Harry's orders better than they did (and certainly better than Lucas does). Of the four (Tom, Adam, Lucas, Ros), Ros is the one I'd want as a partner and/or a boss. Its ironic that despite her own history with betrayal, Ros demands a higher standard from Harry. She seemed almost devastated when Harry confessed to being a traitor in 7.7. Her relief when she realised it was a ploy, on his part to reveal the identity of the real traitor, was quite palpable. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ros - Nitrus - 14-04-2010 02:09 PM Series 7 Spoiler: show RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ros - Tea Lady - 14-04-2010 03:31 PM I think I agree with Silktie here in that I couldnt quite believe Harry had forgiven Ros, for everything she had done in series 5 and 6, to both Harry and his team. I guess though the writers had to get Ros in there as section chief somehow, so there had to be a suspension of disbelief almost to pass that off smoothly. I guess though you may look on it, that in many organisations people get promoted into roles that they may not be suitable for, but its their time and there really is no one else, so ills have to be forgotten. With regards to what Nitrus says I always thought that scene where Harry turns up at Ros' hotel room door a little strange. What do you think Harry was after? Was it really just a drink? Why didnt he phone her and tell her he was coming? Was Harry already drunk? Why didnt he just ask her for a drink after work had finished that day, instead of following her to her hotel? RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ros - JHyde - 14-04-2010 06:44 PM I don't think Harry was after hanky-panky, if that's what you're implying Tea Lady. I think he would have had all sorts of things to do before leaving work and Ros pretty much had to go hide out. I think after Ros came back and Adam died, there was a real bonding that took place. I think they have an isolation in their lives that no-one else shares. Think about it. Lucas, Ruth, Adam, Tom, Zoe and Danny all were at least searching for companionship and something that the Service didn't have its hand in. With Harry and Ros, they were (by and large) very self contained. Ros had her thing with Adam and Harry eventually reached out to Ruth, but for the most part they were bound to the job in a very isolating way that I don't think others on the Grid have shared. There's also a similarity in how they deal with things. That cold, dismissive sense of humour - we've always found Ros and Harry the funny ones. It's not a sarcasm, but more that 'let's crack on' attitude that they both have. |
