SF members have ranks based on their post count and other factors, so the more you contribute and take part in discussion, the higher your rank will become. Here's a list of the ranks and the requirements for being promoted:
Recruit - 0 posts (default for new users)
Junior Officer - 20 posts
Officer - 50 posts
Senior Officer - 150 posts
Executive Officer - 500 posts
Section Chief - 1000 posts, 5 +rep and member for 6 months
Legend - 5000 posts, 15 +rep and member for 1 year
The following are special ranks which cannot be gained through posting:
Spook - Reserved for subscribers (£5 per year, see "Become a Spook" link)
Exile - Banned member
Moderator - Staff member, helps to run SF
Administrator - Staff member, owns and runs SF
As time goes on and members have increasingly large post counts, the requirements for each rank may change and some new ones may be added.
Hope this clears things up for those of you who have been puzzled by ranks and what it takes to gain them.
