I'm liking this idea of an Ireland connection, Ruth, and Harry coming to some kind of breaking point. Given his history with both N. Ireland and Ruth, there are true dramatic possibilities inherent in that kind of plot line.

I always liked the idea of Bond having a good friend in Felix Leiter. So instead of apparent allies (CIA/MI6/FBI/MI5 etc.) always having this air of (not-so) friendly rivalry about them - what about a bona-fide friendship (rather than the usual predictable MI5 man meets pretty CIA liaison totty). It needn't be a male friendship thing either. Wouldn't it be great if Ros (who has been seen as cool and ambivalent towards the yanks) actually had a very close American (or Canadian) friend who was in trouble? Or vice-versa. The over-riding national interest would be put on hold whilst the true level of friendship was tested.

I want to see a plane hijacking story. In order for MI5 to be involved, the plane can be hijacked while still on the ground at Heathrow. And maybe Harry and Ruth can be on the plane on their way to some conference when it happens. The rest of the team must then devise ways to secretly communicate with Harry & Ruth, who will be sowing dissension among the hijackers, secretly organising the passengers to manipulate the situation and collecting information that will allow a successful raid on the plane. And also having a heart-to-heart about their feelings for each other. Wink

I've been toying with a plane idea for some time for fan fic. The problem is that the best scenario involved a plot very like one used in 24, which I only realised after I started writing it. Balls.

I like the plane idea, but i think it would probably work better if the terrorists held the people on the ground in the airports terminal hostage and based it there.
They could say they had Hijackers on one of the flights that was currently airborne whilst holding the hostages on the ground. Double whammy.
Besides i think that it would be interesting to try and see MI-5 have people on the inside, (whoever really but it would be nice to see someone who isn't Ros or Lucas in this position. Silba

), of the Hostage scenario trying to contact their colleagues and prevent an air crisis from occuring.
(It would also be easier to budget for Tongue

)

Yes I agree a plane idea would be good and I dont think it matters if the concept has been used before. Most hijacking* ideas have probably been stolen from a Chuck Norris or Charlton Heston film anyway. As bertowud said its all in the execution. It's the twist that makes it unique. Anyway Jack Bauer and CTU has nothing on Harry Pierce and Section-D.

In saying that I cant quite see Harry persuading Ruthy to come away with him again on business. Look what happened in Havensworth and Baghdad?
