OK, I've seen it now too. I cried. Lots. The first time when RTD's final writing credit apppeared at the beginning.

In terms of the episode, they allocated nearly half an hour to tying up David Tennant's Doctor, which I understand and appreciated for the first watch, but I'm not sure it will play as well when I want to watch it for the tenth time.....slight pun. I liked that with Eccleston it just happened, this one there was a real sense of closing a chapter for many people, not just Tennant and RTD.

I disagree with bertowud, I liked how they wrapped the Master, and Simm was wonderful in both these specials, better than he was the first time around.

I thought the slight petulance of the Doctor before he saves Wilf and before he regenerates was good, it was believable. I've never been crazy about Wilf as a character, but it worked here.

Mixed feelings in the end. This is one of those episodes I'm not sure how it will rate with me over time. I could love it, I could find it naff, I'm not sure. The score was wonderful, some of Murray Gold's best.

I do agree with almh, that bit on the floor when Wilf knocks is just so sad when you realise along with him what is to happen.

I loved the last episode.. granted their were cliches but meh. It was a great way for DT to go... what with the Time Lords coming back and everything.. finding out more about the end of the Time War was immense too.

The scene where the camera is tracking over DT's face when he realises he is still alive and then the four knocks.... heart crushing...

I especially liked his little angry rant about how he could do so much more, it was brilliant. So true of The Doctor too.. little bit arrogant, bit of superiority complex but at the end of the day, he will always sacrifice himself to save others, even if it's just one life. THAT'S what makes The Doctor such an amazing character.

That's also what makes the Doctor different from most of the other Timelords. They are willing to destroy the entire universe, and time, so that they can live forever (well, live is an over-exaggeration, more exist) whereas he will die to save one person, no matter how insignificant they are.

Yeah, it's why I love him too. He's honestly one of my heroes, even if he's fictional. I like to believe he's out there in the TARDIS, somewhere.

don't you feel like they rushed the whole "The Timelords are back and intentionally caused the Master to be nuts" thing? I mean, that would have been a very good 2 hour episode by itself and it was just crammed in.

I agree they handled and wrapped up both The Doctor and The Master and John Simm was wonderful. The whole thing was lacking and felt rushed to me. As I said in my spoiler comment above to Nitrus, the Timelords storyline could have held two hours alone. The ending felt a bit cheesy. Him going to see all of his companions. Also, him considering leaving Wilf to die just doesn't seem like the Doctor to me. I don't think he'd even consider leaving him there.

One question I've had, does David Tennant count as one regeneration or two? I mean, you could technically say he was both ten and eleven.

That was what I meant about almost half the episode being devoted to goodbyes. It felt a little long. I did cry a little when he talked about 2005 being a good year. I liked the anger, the petulance, but I do think the fact that he initially directed it at Wilf was a bit out. I'll be interested to hear RTD's commentary when I buy the DVD.

Yeah, only one. They explained the whole thing with the hand at the end of season 4.

And yeah, I think End of Time should be in spoiler tags. Parts One and Two. WOM has screened in most countries represented on the forum.

the goodbyes though were RTD tying off all the loose ends for both his era and DT's era and allowing Steven Moffat to have a fresh slate. I quite liked them, but am still slightly annoyed that the Doctor saved Martha's life. He could save Mickey, I quite liked Mickey, but let the Sontaron kill Martha! (I realise that some people may disagree with me on this...)

And also, in the commentaries,

[spoiler]RTD said that saving people was the Doctor's reward. And the whole thing with pushing Luke out of the way of a car was because in the Sarah Jane Adventures, apparently they never look before crossing the road, which RTD thinks is bad for a children's tv show, so it was sort of his revenge on that. And also Sarah Jane has a series already, she can look after herself, so he saved Sarah Jane by saving Luke, thus saving Sarah Jane's life.

Why doesn't anyone seem to like Martha? My daughter loves "Marfa Jones". Of course, she's 5. But still.

To me, she was a fun follow up to Rose.

Of course with this being the eleventh incarnation, that means there should only be two more. Whom would you like to see play the Doctor after Matt Smith gets chased of the set with torches and pitch forks?
