The budget cuts and fewer episodes do not lead to cheaper DVD prices either. I pay the same amount for ten episodes as for eight? Perhaps it is the retailer who is ripping me off, surely they should be 20% cheaper? On a serious note, i don't really mind if there are fewer episodes if it means we enjoy sharper writing and better production values for the 8 we do get. Cheers, |

RE: Why only 8 episodes?
Oh I know the box set things really annoy me... Like you pay the same price for series 1 with only 6 episodes and series 2 with 10 and you can also pay the same price for something like Grey's Anatomy with like a bizillion episodes.. That is strange..
And that 8 would be good if that were the case but I don't think it is, I think 10 are needed for a developed storyline. For example in series 8 the nightingale plot could have done wth those 2 extra eps in my opinion |

That is strange.. I can't argue re grey's anatomy, except to say that 22 episodes at approx 40 minutes each = 14.66 hours, which is not quite double that which you get for your 8 episodes of spooks. (Edit: i forgot that each episode of Grey's draws out for an hour of sappiness) As for the plot over 8 rather than 10, i can't say as here in Australia there has been no mention of when it will hit our screens nor when it will be available to buy. As such, i have not seen it and may not for some time. Cheers |

RE: Why only 8 episodes?
Speaking of Australia (not a seamless link), I was reading recently about budget cuts at the BBC. Naturally one takes this into account when thinking of Spooks. But today in my paper I read Spooks was singled out as one a quite a few BBC success stories and that these are making the BBC a lot of money.
Conversely Rupert Murdoch's son was talking a few weeks ago about the need to keep the BBC more slimline. Naturally the heir to the Sky fortune would say such things and one is worried that Cameron, should be be the next PM, will try and side with the Murdoch clan and reduce the scale of the BBC's power, thus affecting our dear show in some way. Now before this all gets really confusing I also read today that another one of the Murdoch clan owns Kudos, which makes Spooks! So are we right to be worried, or what? Sorry, yeah it is just confusing. |

RE: Why only 8 episodes?
Maybe the writers like 8 eps better because is easier to come up with 8 plots than 10 plots.... is better on viewers to see only 5 bombs about to explode in London, 2 nuclear treats and 3 'other' dangers to London than 7 bombs about explode and so on... (I apologize for my weird sense of humor)
Maybe they could do 8 eps and instead of 56 mins, 90 mins, so they only have to think 8 plots and have time to develop the characters...just a thought LNF |
