zzQuestion Episode 4 [re-watch]
What did people think of this episode? I thought it was very good, it was very thought provoking.

Maybe these kind of operations DO go on at these summits! I particuarly liked the growing storyline between Harry & Ruth...

What did you think?

The Harry/Ruth storyline fitted in perfectly. Shy The whole episode was very good. Very realistic and quite disheartening - all the hype about these summits, when in fact everything has already been negotiated and worked out weeks if not months in advance.

Adam's character annoyed me a little - for me it came across as being all "me, me, me". Dodgy

No Harry = No Spooks!!!!Angry

RE: S5 E4 - Havensworth Operation
Oh yes, I loved this episode. Sadly the depiction of African politics and how it often works is accurate (I should know, I live here!). I've worked with these things, and these types of conferences are always a hotbed for intelligence agencies. Also the most important deals are usually made behind the scenes - we call it 'corridor diplomacy'. So this episode was very true to real life.

I also LOVED the Harry/Ruth B-plot, poor Harry. I wanted to hug him in that corridor scene when Ruth walked away.

I thought it was very daring for Spooks to let our heroes assist the woman to assassinate the politician. If this were an American show, I bet they would never have done that. This is what really attracts me to Spooks - they are not afraid to show the dark side of the job.

Maybe they would on 24. Jack Bauer is a bad dude!

RE: S5 E4 - Havensworth Operation
I loved this episode - it's quite a relaxing story line for Spooks as it doesn't contain explosions or too much sprinting round the place. It's calmer than most and although I don't think the series would be as good if they were all like this, it's nice to have a natural pause in the series. The previous episodes had been jam-packed, and I think it was right for this episode to slow down, to focus a bit more on the people in the job. The episode showed a weaker side to Adam, his pain from his wife's death, and in a faster episode would have looked out of place, or would have been shot differently but wouldn't have been so powerful. We see Ros in a more humane light, after the previous three episodes where she's remained pretty ruthless, and Harry and Ruth's relationship, of course, is carried on with the subtle, and less so subtle clips.

DANNY - Placements all over the shop. Back up vehicles, chopper support if we need it. Bomb disposal with a signal jammer for Mary’s trademark remote control blasts. And Tom here’s doing the catering. Mate. You are so covered.

I liked this episode too. It was almost a throwback to the earlier series -slower and more self contained as almh says.

The scene in the corridor makes me want to shout at the pair of them about what idiots they're being. That could have been THE turning point for them!!

Having said that, the boat scene in 5.5 probably wouldn't have happened then... Sad

RE: S5 E4 - Havensworth Operation
I just watched this episode again late last night, and I was blown away. I forgot how great it was. The integration of the whole team in the operation made me really appreciate the joys of a fully staffed Section D.

There were so many twists and turns in this episode, just when you thought you had a handle on where it was going - BOOM. Something else happened. It was a pitch perfect plot. And I'd even go as far as saying if I had to introduce someone to Spooks who had never seen the show before, this is one of the few episodes I would consider showing them. It's really well executed.

Favorite Moments:
- Ros and Harry at the end. Really great acting by Hermoine and a great character moment for Ros.
- Malcolm and Jo on the grid. As much as I love Jo working in the field, I really feel like her natural chemistry with Malcolm made her an ideal desk officer in these episodes.
- Zaf flirting with the hotel workers. Zaf's the best. Big Grin Though, I was really disappointed that he essentially disappeared in the final third of the episode.
- Harry and Ruth. Some really great short, but sweet interactions between them. The final scene was such an encouraging sign and made you believe they were destined to become something great.

I agree that it'd be the perfect episode to introduce someone to the show. I love it! But then again, I love every episode which has lots of "Spy-Tradecraft" in them.

RE: S5 E4 - Havensworth Operation
I thought this was one of the few episodes that you got under the skin of Ros. You saw her on the phone to her mother and lose it with Harry at the end. She was emotionally weak at this stage I feel. HN acting was brilliant throughout.

I agree Simone about the tradecraft. It was very clever but not overly complicated like you get in a James Bond movie.
