RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back
I love the way Ruth handles Harry in episode 3.4. Throughout you get a strong sense of empathy from her through the many concerned looks she gives him, as well as the gentle manner in which she speaks to him. Even when he is yelling at her, she accepts it and understands that it comes from Harry being in pain and concerned about his daughter. The growing bond between the two characters is quite evident in this episode.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back
I get to write this one for Ruth's Diary! I am so excited as I love the moment where she says 'it's OK' while Zoe and Danny jump. She literally doesn't expect anything else (which is sad) but I think it's more because she's thinking about him at the moment, knowing what she is about to say.
Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature |

Ruth understands that Harry needs to vent and puts herself forward for the role. RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back
I just think it's totally ridiculous that the writers keep dancing around the H/R issue. Look, let's be perfectly frank here (or crude, depending on how sensitive you are!): Harry's obviously been very sexually active in the past...so it just is not realistic to run 8 seasons without him getting some kind of... action.
Come ON, guys! Any normal red-blooded woman would have pinned him against a wall in seconds! Well, I would have, anyway...!! So, quite frankly, I don't care whether Harry finally schtups Ruth, or finds someone else...but something's got to happen in series 9. I like the idea of holding the writers hostage, though, "Misery"-style...they can't leave until they write the peeling carrots scene! "Where's Harry?" "Moving in mysterious ways." |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back
....er... going back to 3.4 I loved H/R in this episode. Yes Zoe, Adam, and Danny jumped in the meeting room but Ruth didn't. She really didn't seem to mind, in the sense that she knew he didn't mean it so therefore she wasn't hurt by what he said. I also said in the 3.4 thread that I loved the scene where Adam is talking to Ruth and Danny. Ruth is still distracted. It's almost like she is watching Harry walk back to his office but Harry is off camera.
Ruth is really starting to understand Harry and know what he is feeling, even before he probably feels it himself. I am not sure whether Ruth conciously knows what she is doing in these types of situations but she is falling for him and soon it will start to really show. |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back
I know you aren't a fan of H/R picard1109, but the reason that I like it so much is that it has been a gradual development. We have discussed it earlier in this thread that for H and R their relationship developed from colleagues to friends and then something more, and all that takes time. Compared with other realtionships- Tom and his relationship sagas, Adam and his dramas and then Lucas and miss C.IA - H/R has been a slow process. Hopefully season 9 will move their relationship on significantly.

Harry is not the same person he was, ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. I guess in reality none of us are. Heavens above, I just wouldn't repeat some of the things I did in my 20's and I am sure Harry is no different. Older and wiser and in love (Harry that is.) |

Look, let's be perfectly frank here (or crude, depending on how sensitive you are!): Harry's obviously been very sexually active in the past...so it just is not realistic to run 8 seasons without him getting some kind of... action. Several points. Firstly, we don't know that Harry hasn't been 'getting any' these last 8 years. We've all bemoaned how little we actually see of the personal side of Harry and Ruth compared to, say, Adam or Tom. Or Lucas. So he really could have been having a grand olde time at various points and let's face it: it's not as though you *constantly* have sex anyway regardless of what age you are. I say that as a single 26 year old and I'm not bashing anyone who might be, say, fifty and single and on this forum. And possibly not getting any either. Secondly, Ruth isn't exactly the sort of girl to pin a guy against a wall and especially not at work. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that (I might be quite the fan myself for all you know), but it's not her style. And finally, we get that you're not crazy about HR, picard. I'm not saying this as a Mod, but really - until you see what happens in Season 9, it's probably not worth coming and saying the same thing on THIS particular thread once a week. If there's a particular criticism you'd like to make, specifically about one incident or another on the show or within a specific episode, definitely voice it. We like debate, truly we do. But please make it less general than what you've done so far otherwise in *this* thread. (Just so I don't seem unreasonable, I have asked the same of various Sarah detractors in the past.) RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back
I'm such a ditz. I never linked the two comments together. In 8.4 Harry says to Ruth on the bench "there will always be something else Ruth." Well that's Ruth's famous line isnt it, "there's something else" but she has always said it and then continued, but on the bench with Harry in 8.4 she asks it as a question to him "but there's something else too?"
Perhaps I am just talking nonsense. I need some red wine and Foyle's War. |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back
Sorry, JHyde - didn't realise I'd said it on this thread on this forum before. At my advanced age, one forgets where one's been and what one's said...
TeaLady: fair point about not wanting to repeat some of the things one did in one's 20s! Season 9 screening seems a long time away right now. "Where's Harry?" "Moving in mysterious ways." |
