Yes. The character's name is Jack Reacher. He's actually from a special division of the MPs. When the special services guys were misbehaving, he was the guy they sent to deal with them. At least one of the books is about one incident while he was still in the military (The Enemy if I recall correctly).

You can read them in any order. I've been reading them in random order picking up whichever one I happened to lay hands on. They're not written or published in chronological order. I probably wouldn't start with the two most recent ones though.

Killing Floor was the first one, but I'm glad I didn't start with it. I'd probably start with either The Enemy, One Shot, or Without Fail.

Thanks for that. I think I shall take your advice and see what my local library has on it's shelves. I have just struggled through the worst Robert Ludlum I have ever picked up (Road to Omaha) and I'm actually quite a fan of his.

Hehe I have to admit I'm a Harry Potter fan too. I'm a bit lazy and love listening to the audiobooks read by Stephen Fry. The films are terrible though. My brother and I always say that they should dub in Stephen Fry's voice, he's so much better at it than the actors Tongue

The last one is the worst of all, I was very dissapointed, this usually happens when you read a book, the film is horrible! Angry

Once upon a time in my teens I LOVED Stephen Kings books but after a while I stopped reading them (apart from rereading my favourites) but I recently started reading the Dark Tower series which I hadnt read before and am really loving it.

Have you tried Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? My wife loved it. She's a huge Austin fan.

I only got into Stephen King in the last few years with the Green Mile. I'm refusing/resisting the Dark Tower series.

The Dark Tower series, is that the one with Roland in as the lead ?? I read that some while ago and really loved it, interesting series of books and I thought quite different from the usual Stephen King stuff.
Green Mile was good as well, did you watch the film ? Again not as good as the book.

Another favourite author of mine is Robert Harris. I love the way he combines real life events with cracking good stories. My favourite book of his is Enigma, about the code breakers in WW2. Brilliant!

Oh, and how could I forget Martin Cruz Smith of Gorky Park fame. My favourite books of his is Havana Bay and Wolves Eat Dogs. His main character, Detective Arkady is, in my opinion, one of the great fictional characters of all time.

Yes, Dark Tower is the Roland led series.

I thought they did a great job with the Green Mile movie. It's strange that two of my favorite movies are based in prisons and based on stories by Stephen King and directed by the same guy...then again maybe it's not such a mystery.

The funny thing about the Green Mile movies is that they took the story from the book and used the order that the stories appeared in the book (episodes?) and made that the chronology. It was interesting in that it worked in either order.

Green Mile was the book they released in 8 shorter pieces. It was an experiment of sorts and a nod back to the Dickens era when novels were first publish serially. I only read it after seeing the movie, so I read it as a single novel.

I loved teh first few Harry Potter books but my enjoyment started to wane after book 5 and by the end I was just annoyed with JKR.
But I do love Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire.
