RE: Episode 9 Discussion [rewatch]
just watched this ep the other day for the second time!

I find Juliet very cold in this ep, after all that has happened between she and Harry.

I find the Harry and Ruth relationship rather odd in this ep as well. especialy the bus scene when she is more than happy for him to be next to him them changes when Harry askes her to keep an eye on Adam ( i wonder why, suddenly, because of Fiona? or has ne noticed something we havent). it is odd watching Harry at home watching TV. Imagine if he was watching Jeremy Kyle!

i really like how the team all pull together in this ep, and how harry gives his watchers the slip to go see Adam.

the fear in Harrys face when he is at the dog track with Adam and he asks him how he is and adam says 'feels like something is broken' harry looks petrified he dosent know what to do or say, i dont think he was expecting such an open and honest answer from Adam.

i love the ending with harry and adam at the track with Wes its lovely! as is the one with ruth telling harry she was glad he was back!

RE: Episode 9 Discussion [rewatch]
I love this episode, it is probably my personal favourite as much as I'm able to choose only one. And it's because we get to see and learn so much of Harry.

I love that first scene between Harry and Juliet - it's probably the closest we've seen Harry to totally losing his rag. Even poor Ruth suffers, but she just takes it in stride. Very funny.

I love how Harry makes a stand against the Americans kidnapping UK citizens without just cause, but I found Roscoe a little over the top with his snarling bravado.

It's great to see the loyalty of the team towards Harry, I especially loved the way Zaf took issue with anyone saying anything against Harry. Zaf hasn't been there that long, and already he is a firm believer in the goodness of Harry.

This episode also shows the growing friendship between Adam and Harry off well. Just last episode Harry couldn't bring himself to ask Adam how he feels after Fiona's death, but here he not only asks, but also listens sympathetically and then brings father and son on an outing together.

Poor Colin, he didn't have the best of times in this episode, did he? First Juliet calls him "Kevin", and all through the episode he has trouble getting others to buy into his ideas.

Ruth's devotion to Harry is really obvious in this episode. I interpreted the way she turns away from Harry on the bus as disappointment that he wanted to talk about Adam, rather than saying something more personal to her.

I loved seeing Harry at home with his dog. One tends to forget that he is just a normal man with a life as we only always see him in his suit at the office.

One thing I didn't understand, though: why would Adam take off the night vision and give it to Jo? Surely he'd be better able to drive if he has it on himself.

I have never used night vision goggles working in insurance, but my guess would be that you get tunnel vision, i.e you can't see what is to the left and right to where you are looking. Also if you are wearing night vision and another car's headlights hit you, you could well be blinded and crash.

This is truely one of my favourite episodes. I feel everyone has a good episode here, perhaps except Jo who comes over as a little bit of a wet fish who can't see the bigger picture.

Juliet is clearly taking orders from above when she suspends Harry. Us Brits never like to upset the Americans and Harry did just that. To be fair to Juliet though, about half way through the episode you see the penny drop and she goes along with the team, and starts to think they are being played. Come on, that photograph, with the newspaper showing!! All very convenient.

I love the moment where Harry talks to Adam at the dogs. I think Harry really takes in what Adam is saying and perhaps knows what Adam is feeling, having loved and lost in his life as well. Adam is also forming a strong partnership with Ruth. He takes her out in the field instead of Jo or Zaf.

The bus scene is amazing. Perhaps this is my favourite R/H scene ever. I think Harry starts talking about Adam because he is starting to feel uncomfortable as to where the moment is going with Ruth. There is a spark when their hands touch and a look. I don't think Harry knows what to do next so retreats into the safe topic of work. Ruth turns to the front again as she is annoyed that Harry didn't take the moment further. The end scene with Ruth in the office is lovely and the way she is looking at Harry, it's complete adoration.

One question I have about this episode. If Pollard wasn't working for the CIA, who was he working for? I think I missed that bit due to gazing at Harry for 60mins.

RE: Episode 9 Discussion [rewatch]
About the bus moment: I agree that Harry mentions Adam for something to say, but I actually interpreted Ruth's turn away as her taking offense that he would even have to suggest that she needed to be reminded to keep an eye on Adam! She is the one who had been Adam's biggest defender. It is almost as if she is saying, If you have to ask me to do that, you don't know me at all.

Hmmm...night vision goggles. Sounds like a gadget to me! Wink My oldest has some infrared night vision goggles. Maybe I'll test them out tonight! Silba

I am sure I will have more to say once I have watched it again.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

re the bus scene....I am not sure if I am allowed to mention it here....but I will anyway (!) in the commentry it is clear that Nicola Walker created the hand touch, in other words it want scipted..pure magic!

p.s have the actors ( PF and NW) ever spoken about the way they have created the H & R connection?

RE: Episode 9 Discussion [rewatch]
I totally love this episode, definitely in my top 10 of the show. It has my big three: great script, great acting, great direction. It all comes together so neatly and is always a pleasure.

The main reason I think this episode works so well is that it is such a perfect balance of the personal and the professional. The thriller style of the plot, the tradecraft used, combined with all the lovely moments for all the characters, make for terrific viewing many times over. PF is particular turns in a great performance, we all love seeing Harry at his best.

I disagree that Jo was a fish wet on this one. I think her reaction was totally understandable. It doesn't mean I agree with her, I am firmly on Zaf's (and Harry's) side, but I think her distress is reasonable given what had just happened. I like seeing them all argue around the conference table, the show is at its best when those scenes are incorporated.

There has been a little mention of locations on this one - personally I think it is amongst the best the show has ever looked. The scenes at the dog track are lively and Paternoster Square looks incredible in that beautifully shot scene between Adam and Ruth.

The scene on the bus is lovely and so simple and I try not to overanalyse it. I agree that Ruth's moving away is mostly annoyance at the turn of the conversation but mostly I just like seeing these two interact somewhere outside of work. It's a pleasant change from their regular dynamic.

I love that Harry goes back to work after a day at the track, so predictable. And so predictable that Ruth was there. That last scene (in addition to the one on the bus) has spawned I don't know how many HR fan fics so I suppose it has a lot to answer for!

Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature
