This thread is for discussion of confirmed/rumoured storylines for Spooks Series 9. It should not be host to discussion of filming or any other rumours.

There's good news in that, as Nightingale wasn't altogether successful. I'm hoping they don't actually go the overarching theme of the season route again. It doesn't always work well although it does work brilliantly when executed well - think season 7. But there are other seasons we love that aren't in the same vein.

So returning to this betrayal storyline, I think that Lucas/Ruth will be the betrayers but I'm leaning more towards Ruth because she hasn't betrayed anyone since Series 2.

What do you think?

I'm with Silktie - I like to think it's bigger than any one person on the team and is about a broader political conspiracy.

That could be quite funny actually, given the elections. They do like to be topical.

From a purely logical point of view it would depend if NW wanted to leave the show. Gemma Jones (Connie) only really held the fort whilst NW was away, although she was fabulous IMO. So they had to find an exit plot for her. Ruth may go down the Ros route in S6 when she got caught up in something a bit out of her control but found her way back to the team.

Don't really see the show going more that S10 as much as I hate that idea and as Harry is the lynchpin he is the character that has to have some sort of final closure. Don't see how that can happen without Ruth.

Someone on the Board has said that Kudos has already been commissioned for a Season 10 - I tend to disbelieve that.

With the freezing of the TV licence and the need for cutbacks I very much fear this will be the last Season hence

as the betrayer is feasible.

We've already had that exact thing happen with that person once and i seriously doubt they'd take that story and do it again. Spooks has more to offer than that.

In the trailer for the whole series, Harry is saying to Ruth, "He's an honest man who lies for a living". This is followed by Harry saying to Lucas "There is no room for betrayal".

Personally i think that we can rule out Ruth, Harry and probably Beth as the 'traitor' figure. (However i may be proven wrong about Beth). Feel free to verbally abuse my claims at the end of the series if i am indeed wrong about Harry and/or Ruth.

Also, when you say you tend to disbelieve Spooks being commissioned for series 10...
I would be incredibly surprised if it hasn't been decided on already as there is a large chance they will end on 10. It's also frequently happened before that people have managed to get crew to admit to these things before the BBC release the confirmation.
Plus i think it would be rather stupid to have brought in so many new characters for only one more series.

its funny looking back on all these theories we were all way off about Ruth!

i do think its odd after the HS was killed there was no MENTION of nightingale!
