Perhaps she is purely as it says on the tin 'love of his life'. I do hope it'll be more than that though as it'd be such a waste of two good actors put there for a bit of lovin'. I think RA would be disappointed with this outcome as well

What could save the Lucas and his many lovers storyline for me is another mystery woman showing up and calling him Claude (The Impressionists) and he doing the let-me-explain routine yet again.

The storyline then shifts from lovesick Lucas to how-deep-is-his-cover Lucas, (or John or Claude or Paul, George or Ringo.) I'm serious.

Did Aziz really die or will he be a double agent? There was so much (good) lying going on that it was hard to tell which end was up. I believe the daughter kept the secret but they told the father she spilled to the bad guy so he would give them the location of the poison.

I missed the pond so have to go search for it. The apartment was nice. It's motivating me to start decluttering again.

More than ready for a Tariq back story.

I agree that bringing Maya into the story must be linked to Vaughn. All the emphasis on telling the truth and hiding the truth is forcing Lucas to make a move. I am not enthusiastic about Maya as his long lost love and am not convinced that out of the blue just because of a photograph he decides to contact her again. He must have a deeper reason, the chance to erase his past before Harry finds out. No matter what the reason for Maya....she has a target on her back. I'll be watching to see if he really tells her the whole truth...if not then he's just using her again.

I'm holding out for a relationship with Beth....she reminds me of a blond Margaret Hale. Would be great if they continue the tension between Lucas & Beth. We know they don't trust each other and have something to hide in their past. I loved the way they connect with their eyes....way more sexy vibes than with Maya.

I agree about Lucas & Beth - far more chemistry there than with Maya, although Maya's a ten zillion per cent improvement on she-who-must-not-be-named. I'm sure Lucas, Vaughan and Maya are all linked to the event in Africa. That photo of her (that Lucas held) almost looks like she's in fatigues, and I still wonder if (speculation only) they weren't part of some paramilitary or revolutionary/activist type organisation, even mercenaries, maybe? And I do think Harry knows all about Lucas, and conversely, I doubt if Lucas knows that Harry knows (it all).

It is entirely possible that the three of them were aid workers except that Lucas and Vaughen were actually undercover and either something they did went spectactuarly wrong or they had to do something ileagal( Remember in the first episode Lucas was on a shoot to kill mission so according to this the British government do order security sevices to do this. Maya not knowing their true ID's thought they died. Huh

As for chemistry as always with the love interest except Ruth and Harry there is no time to show it develop and so other relationships look better

This season is so much better than last season. Lots of action and there is never any fear of showing a little violence. The SC story line was horrible and destructive. Also, it cannot be said enough times how horrible her accents were. Kevin Costner's "British" accent in Robin Hood was better than SC's accents. I’d like to thank the writers for making the Russians the bad guys this season. The CIA really took a hit last season.

Someone pointed out, and I think it is true, that Beth is a great replacement for Jo. If you expect her to be Ros, you will be disappointed. Lucas is more like Ros. His voice is so low and gravely--he's using his Guy voice. Beth is growing on me week to week and she is a good partner for Lucas for work purposes only. Loved the scene where she shot Viktor. I am glad that this show does not feel the need to have models as the spies. However, I think both Beth and Ruth deserve makeovers in the clothes department. It looks like Ruth might wear a lighter color in episode 4 and Beth's blue sweater was almost electric compared to the rest of her clothing.

I hope we get to see more of Dmitri and Tariq. Tariq needs to get out of the office once in a while.

Seems like there was some movement in the H/R saga. It must be difficult for Ruth to get past all the things that have happened in the past with Harry. Clearly, she has strong feelings for him, but he allowed the death of her partner and would have allowed the death of his son (except for Malcolm). I hope they work things out.

There are some really clever and well thought out ideas about Lucas/Maya/Vaughan in these discussions. Love his house with the yard and pond. What happened to the first place he had in series 7 with the older woman giving him treats and spying on him? And that place in series 8 was just horrible.
