If not, then it is possible Harry stole it or took it from some terrorists that were developing it. More to the point, why did he have that fake one ready in his magic safe? Heaven knows what is kept in those cupboards behind his desk also. There's probably a cruise missile hidden in there. As for why Albany was hidden under that church alter, I have no idea, but I liked seeing Harry on his knees. Yeah, I understood it to have been developed by the British during the Cold War years, because Harry at some stage says that the Russians found out about it and that was enough to keep the status quo at bay. Ha, I find it extremely amusing how often the most horrible weapons or plans for horrible weapons are hidden in churches in fiction. I wonder if there was an ancient old priest around somewhere tasked with keeping it safe? Or did Harry hide it there without them knowing? And since A Cousin now has me looking for symbolism everywhere , I wonder what they were trying to say with Harry on his knees in a church, but not before an altar, but rather before a horrible weapon? |

Thanks Silktie. That sounds about right. So the symbolism there, must be that God was looking after Albany. God was keeping an eye on a weapon that (if worked) could change the world that he created and select those that died by their race, ethnicity etc. Harry was on his knees to say to God, "sorry," but I have to take this from you to save my Ruth, who is also one of your flock. Heavens, I really can talk some rubbish sometimes. |

Rubbish is my name, symbolism is my game! Don't know whether to take this as a compliment or a hint to shuddup already! But while we are talking symbolism... The idea of Lucas' chest tatoo which is the William Blake's God as an Architect image pops into mind at this point for me. Just throwing that at the wall to see if it sticks. Either that or anyone who would be seeking Albany is obviously a vampire and would not be able to enter a church. I'm goin' with that one.... Hiding it in the church reminded of me of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where they go seeking Henry Jones, Sr's diary in the library and wind up in the catacombs. I was waiting for Harry to open the grate and take Beth and Dimitri underground. Yeah, I'm sticking with my vampire theory.... Hmmm...Harry in a fedora?.........................................Sorry. I'm back. On the subject of the development of Albany, I don't think it would be a Cold war era project. I think it would have had to have been developed sometime between 1990 and 2003 - during the Humane Genome Project but before all the genes were actually mapped. Because that would be why it couldn't work. Yet. Russia is just one of the many countries who have general access to the HGP research. In S9, Russia is one of the "bad guys." It is not mentioned that Albany was developed by the British Government. I suppose it could be something that was developed elsewhere and has been passed around a bit but if that were so, it would lose its deterring power a bit? Now cracks a noble heart. No! Don't shut up! This is fun. How else are we going to fill the time until season 10 starts?
A little moment in 9.8, which I haven't seen mentioned yet, but which I really liked, is when Dimitri retrieves Albany from its hiding place, and Harry wants to take it from him, and he says he'll carry it for Harry. We then get a typical PF "Harry" moment when he says, ever so drily, "How helpful of you" with a slight roll of the eyes. Ha! That cracks me up every time. You can just see Harry thinking "Fool boy is smarter than I thought. Oh well, onto plan B". |

He really does not seem intimidated by Harry. He also was the first to realise what Harry was trying to say when he had to own up to the team about his feelings for Ruth. I do wonder though whether this had something to do with the reported burgeoning Ruth and Dimitri relationship, which Harry was purported to have quashed, and which clearly ended up on the cutting room floor. I also love the way Harry says to Lucas, "Don't you hurt her." I think these were the words he said to Mani. |

I always thought Dimitri, once he trained up and become more experienced, would make a good section chief one day. He's not intimidated by higher powers, he's steadfast, not to afraid to challenge authority in question. Harry could sure use a man of Dimitri's personality to run his crew for once. I remember PF said in an interview about how he has a repertoire of certain "Harry" gestures/expressions/movements that is can use whenever there is a moment of confusion over what the heck is going on with the script since they shoot everything simultaneously and they can easily get confused over which episode their mindset should be in. LOL! Next time I'm gonna have to watch for those certain expressions......sometimes I wonder if Angry-Harry-face and Sarcastic-Harry-face is the same.....or maybe he's constipated....they don't seem to go to the bathroom very often.... LOL! PF mentioned this in his radio interview on BBC4 the other week. He said he had a special face which he used when Harry didn't have a clue what was going on. I think he pulled the face for the interviewer, but it was a bit difficult to see on the radio. |

Sounds a lot like SHP to me! Harry and Dimitri have one other very big thing in common, they both come from a military background. Very different branches of course, but military none the less. They were both head-hunted for the job too. I think one of my S10 wishes will be development of that dynamic. Now cracks a noble heart. Here's me hoping this dynamic if it develops with Harry and Dimitri, then it won't end up ruined and destroyed like Harry and Lucas. I'm not sure how much I trust these writers anymore. Harry's dynamic with Beth can do with some exploring as well. He didn't really want her on the team after events in 9.2, but gave in because Lucas wanted her. Has Harry now changed his mind about her? |
