I think if they wanted to bring Lucas back, it is possible that Harry would have 'faked' a suicide for Lucas to 'clear his conscience' or something similar. Highly unlikely seeing as Lucas put the woman Harry loves in danger, but possible. Lucas gets another chance, and Harry is surely intelligent enough to cover his own tracks if he should so wish... RE: Series 9 Episode 8 discussion
Apologies accepted, Nitrus. Thank you. 37 pages of discussion over one episode is pretty daunting reading.

And I agree, Bravo. It's from a WRITING perspective that S9 was so frustrating, irritating and ultimately unsatisfying (sorry). As a writer (part-time), I wouldn't dare try and not link in previous information - an Editor would laugh and probably drop me as a writer! Concealing info - okay, the character dying (or did he?) - no problem.

But, without a doubt, I was glued to the screen to see what happened, and they pulled every emotion they could - particularly with the threats against Malcolm and Ruth - to make it work. It's the Lucas=JB that didn't. Lucas with a dangerous past (pre-MI5) would've worked better.

But back to the Episode 8 thread: It's the 48 hour delay that has me interested. Why 48 hours? It seems as if Harry's organised something in that time, and it's possible Harry could've helped fake Lucas's suicide and lied to the Home Sec - unlikely, but possible, and there's no body. I hope Harry's altered some of his old "projects" (like Beth did to hers) so we can have him on the Grid ASAP.

Interesting thought, but one which I think is unlikely. Harry already gave Lucas his second chance when he let him go after the interrogation scene in 9.7. Lucas spurned that second chance by continuing to go after Albany and then kidnapping Ruth. I'm not sure Harry will give him yet another chance after that.

Very true, another chance is rather unlikely, but then again, this is Harry and Lucas we're talking about, you can never tell with those two, one second they're screaming in each other's faces and then the next they are risking their lives for each other. They have a very peculiar relationship that I wished the writers had explored more....shame...guess we'll never get it...Undecided

I'm really wondering about those 48 hours too! Why so long? If it would have been 24 hours he couldn't really organise anything of meaning, that's right! But what would he organise, did Harry knew he was going to get a slap on the wrist (to put it mildly) and did he cover his tracks as much as posible in that time (Albany, Lucas,...), and is Harry the only one involved or does someone else know about this?
About us seeing no body of a dead Lucas, if I remember correctly, we've hardly seen dead bodies of officers before, all we get to see are coffins and empty desks, so I'm not sure Lucas is still alive, but that doesn't explain those damned footstepsounds of course!
Really hope we will get the whole picture in S10!

RE: Series 9 Episode 8 discussion
I never heard the footsteps (but then I'm getting old and deaf) nor picked up on the 48 hours bit so just accepted that the writers want us the think Lucas jumped. But I keep wondering why did he choose to jump? If you're thinking of committing suicide and have a gun in your hand the obvious thing to do is shoot yourself, regardless of how high a building you're on. So I did have a private fantasy that MI6 needed him for an undercover job with the Russian mafia where genuine Russian prison tattoos would be very useful, so set up a story with Harry to explain why he had to leave. So it was MI6 who found Vaughn and provided all that back-up that Lucas needed in 9.8 - well we did wonder how he managed all that in such a short space of time.
It doesn't bring Lucas back to Section D, but with RA's commitments to other projects I don't think that was ever likely, but at least my way Lucas is alive and well and doing what he does best somewhere out there.

That is definitely a theory I had being toying with that MI6 was involved in this whole story-arc. As you say it would explain some of the holes in the plot if indeed Lucas had help from another agency such MI6.

It also works for me too, as I clutch at straws!

RE: Series 9 Episode 8 discussion
Maybe MI6 were the 'people' that told Lucas where he could find Vaughn after Lucas knifed him in 9.7, because he said there were people who would know but wouldn't talk to Harry. They may have supplied all the equipment that Lucas had in 9.8. Definite straw clutching going on here!!
