I too would like to see it return to a threat of the week only format as in earlier series when the characters were the through line. I think that character development through the threat of the week works best. You don't need another plot super imposed on top of it all. It is just too much. Too much to write cleanly and concisely and too much to absorb. Although, when it works, it works extremely well as in S7. Problem is, seems to me that it is the development of the more peripheral characters that suffers with an over arching theme on top of a threat of the week. And you pay for that in the long run. No one character should ever take over.

Especially with characters like Beth, Demitri and Tariq who havent really had a chance to shine yet undecover... maybe even Alec if he returns would be interesting to see his decision making

I obviously hope that ends in a "They will" rather than "They won't" after so long, and so much the have been through they deserve at least a little bit of happiness

And I agree no character should ever take over, storylines involving those characters isn't so bad, but for a series to be hyjacked by just one character it becomes a little boring... same as I don't want a series focused on Harry and Ruth, as a undercurrent it works perfectly because so far it's never overtaken the storyline but Spooks isn't the Harry/Ruth show, or the Lucas North show ect, I think that was one of the things that annoyed me most about Series 9 was that it was all Lucas focused a lot of the time :/

I think that in S10 Harry and Ruth should just get together-
(yeah I like them too).

I guess if Harry goes, they would have to kill his character like, Lucas, Ross, Jo, Adam, etc. and just replace him. Let's see who can replace him, the guy from the Linley Mysteries (haven't seem him in any show) or Ralph Fiennes (yeah I know I'm dreaming I don't think Ralph does tv).

S10:
- Harry gets through his inquiry, all-be-it a little bit damaged, he is human after all!
- Harry and Ruth remain good friends, (although I am a HR shipper and I love HR fanfics) its SPOOKS not a HR shipper show!
- PLEASE, PLEASE can they return to individual storys per episode Over-arcing storylines only worked well in S7 (S9 I didn't mind cos there was some character development)
- CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!!!!!!!!!! Make us believe in our characters, like the earlier seasons!

Ok. Enough said. Not even thinking about if its the last season or not. Don't wanna go there.


Can I also make a side note? We're already speculating and its not even the new year? We've got months to wait... aren't we a little early to be speculating now?

I keep trying to think of a way the writers will surprise us in episode 10.1. The whole enquiry thing with Harry, Ruth helps save him etc etc is all a little predictable. What if they try and pin Lucas' "murder" on Harry. He's up on a murder charge as well as treason. Surely there were no witnesses and Lucas did have a gun on him, so why jump, why not shoot himself? Harry has the head wound showing signs of a struggle.

Also, what if Dimitri offers to console Ruth? That would be a shocker, them *coughs* waking up together!!

Just an idea anyway. The first episode of any series always has the shock factor. I am just trying to guess what it will be this time.

I was also thinking that Harry could be accused of murder.
No one was around when Lucas jumped other than Harry, it looks suspicious... and it doesn't look good for Harry at all.
He would have to use Lucas, prove John Bateman was mentaly unstable and come clean about everything, and answer how John took Lucas's place with no questions asked,
If it was all stacking against Harry, it would make for an interesting enquiry, and surely if Harry was to leave, he would want to go with honours not disgrace

Demetri and Ruth? Noooooooo. Poor Harry. It's Ruth who needs a kick up the butt with a little jealousy.

John/Lucas getting into MI5 was not Harry's responsibility. His clearance would have been done elsewhere. SO they can't pin that on him. Infact, that may help him help them brush the matter of him taking a dive off the roof under the carpet

I agree though, an investigation where Ruth saves the day is predictable. Perhaps the shocker is that she doesn't side with Harry and doesn't help him, believing him to be wrong. That will certainly settle the will they/won't they and she may as well jump into the sack with Demetri. *looks for cover*

That would be quite interesting Ruth being tempted by another man and then realising Harry is the one. Only thing is I was wondering where you guys got the whole Demitri Ruth idea I've never really seen that in any episode or is it me having a thick day. I think it is cause i've read elsewhere in other threads that Max Brown looks like he fancies Nicola Walker a bit when they act together.

*Sticks fingers in ears* no no no ruth and/or harry cant die, i dont think i would cope! unless of course one died saving the other or of madness because the other had died but without sir harry spooks isnt spooks


i can see the dimitri ruth thing, he does look at her longinging (SP) at times but i dont know if it is recipricated.
