Agreed to some extent, but the snappy oneliners and sarcasm that so set Harry and Spooks apart have been missing in the last few seasons, and this needs to go back into the script because they really defined Harry's character. In addition, Ruth's only lines these days seem to be put downs, denials (and screams) She used to have some crackers.She used to also show her brillance. With Ros and Malcom also gone, the dialogue seems to have lost its sharpness. Add in the angst of S9 and its slipping into soap opera terrain (dialogue wise) I don't personally believe the writing on S9 to be Spooks at it's best.

Agreed! I'm hoping that the "specialist" might stick around because he seems like he might be a contender for some sharp words. Or else I'd love to see Beth develop into a fairly bitter character (but obviously I don't want to see a repeat of Ros). All the lovey-dovey dialogue of S9 was fairly unbelievable at times, and I must admit I sincerely miss the old sarcasm and wit that Ros injected into the show.

PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE,someone tell me that what I've heard is not true??
A friend of mine claims she recently read an article (about another BBC programme) in which it said that -due to the recent cut's and budget certain BBC programme's would no longer be commisioned? These programme's were Spooks,Waking the dead (the upcoming series will be the last) and Silent Witness.
I haven't been able to find this article anywhere and my friend no longer has it,I have searched everywhere but she swear's to me that she read it in a newspaper.
In it my friend said that someone at the BBC commented on period drama's costing less to make than these programme's and that as viewing figure's had gone down in recent years they just couldn't afford to spend the money in the hope that figure's would go up again?
The only thing I have found is an article by Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead) in which he say's that the BBC are more interested in spending the budget on Doctor Who rather than good drama series,he does,however,comment on the fact that he believe's his Tv series should have been axed years ago but he says nothing else!
Anyone heard anything similar or have I been pranked by a friend??

Firstly, calm down.

Secondly, what you've heard is sort of true, yes the BBC are axing dramas to save money but no, Spooks is not one of them. Spooks is definitely coming back at some point this year for series 10. So you don't need to worry.

I had heard about the tenth series but I wasn't sure if this 'article' meant further series or not,hopefully I've got it all wrong and I'll be Spook slapping my friend when I see here,lol.
I hope they don't cut programme's,Ashes to Ashes was great and they got rid of that,I've heard Hustle wont be returning to our screens and I love that too.
Period drama's are ok but how many version's of Jane Austin do we have to watch,do they think we don't understand the first time round??

Almost had kittens when I read that post. I don't watch a lot of telly but Spooks is my top programme, along with Merlin and Doctor Who.
I can think of lots of other programmes that have so called "celebs" on them that could be axed to save the fees.

Okey day...don't worry my friend I have proof for you what you hard was a rumour and only a rumor, haha
I think a reason why Spooks has it's cliffhangers is so it can return,
It's not really fair that all the money goes into Dr Who when personally I haven't liked since Russell T Davis stopped writting it, the newer Series Since David Tennant left hasn't been as well written in my opinion and is overrated TV
Anyways...
It IS true the BBC are cutting budgets, it started a while back, Ashes to Ashes had its S3 budget cut, so it's likely Spooks Series 10 will only have 6 episodes, but it was before S9 even finished the Ian Wylie (A very reliable source) said he was 99% sure Spooks would get a new Series, and then of course if you saw the very end on 9.8... you would've seen this, riiiight at the end as a teaser when 9.8 aired

Also I think someone said, that when they met Nicola Walker they overheard her talking about S10... so I wouldn't worry at all

It's annoying, a lot of people I know don't know quality TV, they watch something that's popular sadly, I have a lot of friends who have no idea what Spooks is so they don't watch even though I speak highly of it to them, yet they watch Dr Who or Waterloo Road because 'Everyone else watches it'... I suppose the same thing happens when winning awards, it's not how good a show is, it's how many watch it and vote, it's a popuarity contest

I'm guessing the writting started just before S9 ended, and that they Series could begin shooting in March, and aired in September/October... random guess

That newspaper article is very old and it has been mentioned on the SF before. I think it was the Daily Mail. If memory serves, it was pre series 8.

No offence, but it isn't called the Daily Fail for nothing. Those 2 words reasure me it's all poppycock. I have no doubts there will be a s10. Six episodes is probable. I'm hoping the coincidence of s1 having 6 doesn't mean it's the last one. Not with all the other poop on the box these days. Stop paying idiotic zelebs to be "judges" on strictly for one And yes, Just how many times do we need to redo P&P, Jane Eyre etc?There is and only ever will be, one Mr Darcy.

I hope its not only six episodes.. two of my favourite series have been S5 and S6 which I think were both 10 episodes long.. If it is the last series then I think it will be similar to S6, in that episodes carry on about the same subject, rather then there being a new plot each episode (like 5). Lets just hope the viewing figures for S10 get past the 6/7 million mark which hopefully means S11!!!

I think if this is the last series then BBC should take a leaf out of ITVs book and copy what they do with their long running detective shows. Stop doing series but do one off specials every year or so like they started doing with Foyle and others. A two hour extravaganza every so often with Harry and Co would be fantastic.
