Hey, Kirayuki,
Don't feel bad. I like peppermint tea with milk, too! Only occasionally after dinner instead of dessert.
I don't discriminate against any kind of tea, but whatever it is, I have to have a little milk in it!

My sister and b-i-l, who were living in Manchester, visited me here is Oz some years back, and had a specific request from a colleague to buy as much Lady Grey tea as they could, because said colleague's local shops were no longer stocking it!

thats funny,im in canada and if we are in the states and ask for a tea we get iced tea lol so you have to ask for hot tea. its funny how we in canada are 1/2 british 1/2 american in so many ways.since the days of monty python we have always had access to your tv shows whereas in the states they see hardly untill recently.

I love this thread - where else could you get abuse for the type of tea you choose to drink?

RE: What is Sweet Tea?
I'm rather fond of Russian Caravan tea myself - with milk, no sugar. Hope that doesn't mean I'm in cahoots with the enemy!

Best mint tea (whether spear-, pepper-, or just common garden variety) is made from leaves picked fresh from the garden, boiling water poured over them and left to steep for 5 mins Smile

The weird thing I find is that while tea drinking seems to cross social boundaries (I'm thinking here of how it is depicted in Spooks, as well as more generally), the way it is drunk (in a cup or a mug, loose leaf in a teapot or tea bag, served with milk or lemon, honey or sugar) often reveals a lot about social status, class alignment, and age.

I always make tea in a teapot with bags when I'm on holiday, but it is a mug and teabag (decaffeinated) normally.

I love iced tea and will drink a lot of it in the summer. I make something we call "Sun Tea" which is, rather obviously, tea brewed by the sun in a glass jug. I make it with regular black pekoe tea and usually toss some mint from my garden in there as well. It comes out very smooth brewed in the sun. But once the weather goes cooler, it doesn't work as well.

Hot tea, while I like it fine, I will only drink if I need a pick-me-up in the afternoon at work. Usually Earl Grey and usually from a bag. Despise me if you dare! Tongue I used to have an infuser for loose tea but one of the kids absconded with it and ruined it. I have yet to replace it.

If you want to check your theory, and if you don't already know this, just click on their fanfic.net names and it will take you to their profiles. Most of them have their nationalities listed. I find there to be a reasonably equal mix of British-American nationalities with a couple of Aussies and Dutch mixed in for good measure, but I could be wrong.

Lord help me! The pregnant Ruth. Frankly, I just stop reading when it comes up. Thud

RE: What is Sweet Tea?
It's Earl Grey for me too, in fact I am just finishing some now made with a bag and in my nice Cath Kidston mug (which I won in a raffle!). I can't really function without my first tea of the day, always drunk on an empty stomach and without any teeth cleaning. This really is the best cup of the day and I don't really bother with it again until mid afternoon.

If you are coming to the UK don't bother drinking tea in Costas, Starbuck, Cafe Nero; dustbin sized mugs of grey tea, yuk! If you can't make it to the cream tea mecca - Devon or Cornwall, then try a National Trust teashop. They have a great selection of teas and homemade looking cakes.

I like this thread, it's quite madSmile
