Watched most of the Marco Polo thing yesterday...totally dreadful! PF's not bad in it...but it was beneath his talent.

We all say that too often, don't we: PF is wonderful in the role but the film isn't worthy of him. I wonder if it's because he's not offered roles in better movies or because he makes poor choices?

My own personal opinion is that PF is drawn to the character and what he can bring to it and less aware of the piece as a whole. He hasn't been chasing fame and fortune. IMO, he has just tried to do interesting work and remain employed. Success as an actor is a game of luck, networking and endurance. 75% of the jobs you get will be just that - a job. The other 25% is Equus, White Angel, and Spooks. Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

I think he thought the whole thing was a scream. I loved the joke about hot water and cold water. And as for the comment about student life, it could have been Harry Pearce talking!! |

RE: Peter Firth #2
Hey, I just bought a 1970's 'Film and Filming' magazine which has a large double page article in it about PF staring in Joseph Andrews.
I haven't read it yet. I wanted to read the novel, then watch the film first. Anyone interested? |

Any chance you could scan it and post it on here? I've never read the book but the film's worth watching. PF's wonderfully sweet in it. "Where's Harry?" "Moving in mysterious ways." |

I must confess, I really enjoyed Joseph Andrews, in spite of reading some pretty dire reviews of it beforehand. "Wonderfully sweet" is spot on!
I would very much like to see the article too - pretty please? |
