RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
I think they would only consider it because it's been going for 10 years, which is a long time for any Drama to continue for (Minus the British Soaps of course ) they are running out of stories, Anthony Neilson said it too in the 9.7 commentary, so the only thing they can do is go into deep character and then there's only so far that can go too
I think Spooks has still got another Series or 2 left in it, as long as it ends on a good note (Well not a cliffhanger) I'd be happy with that Kudos haven't got any other major shows out at the moment other than Spooks, at least I don't think they have You and I...We're made of secrets-Ruth Evershed S10 "If it was up to me and Peter they'd have done it loads by now"- Nicola Walker |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
I too think it probably is the last series, as much as I don't like it.
I think Kudos have been struggling with the budget for some time now, wasn't it mentioned in an interview somewhere that the BBC gives a lot less percentage of the budget than they did in previous years. Also as others have said most TV programmes want to go out at the top. Peter Firth's personal interviews earlier in the year also seemed to suggest he was making plans for change in his life, but I suppose that could also be for numerous reasons. I would also like an "proper" ending. Although Kudos have "given" us this great show I also feel they have "taken" probably more than they have given back to the fans for their loyalty i.e. The several Killing off of many popular characters. Without the fans/viewers there is no show. I'm not saying they should give in to fans wishes completely, I'm certain they will have many a twist and turn to keep us on the edge of our seats, but I do think it wouldn't hurt them to give one happy ending with regards to Harry and Ruth, or at least hopeful! I think we deserve something for our loyalty. I personally felt after 9.1 that all was lost and wasn't certain I could continue after that, but then there was still hints of a future so I was glad. I don't want to get to an end of a show I've watched for nearly 10 years to feel dissapointed. Sorry not meaning to go on, I just really want a Happy/positive ending for Harry and Ruth. Of course this is all still speculation, so I shall wait impatiently for a Kudos confirmation. Hurry up though will you Kudos! |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
One thing that I think people have to remember is that good ending doesn't mean it'll be a happy one
Of course LV R/H I too would love for there to be a happy ending in particular for Harry and Ruth but the writters have often said also that its not always about that, they themselves agree they love the Ruth/Harry aspect but it doesn't mean because they want it to happen that it will, it depends what they feel should happen and what they think the best story would be I think a show like Spooks is difficult to round off, because of nature of the show as well, characters can be replaced over and over because in reality the same thing happens in MI5, officers leave, they die ect and the Service goes on, (Obviously Spooks isn't a true representation of MI5 but I hope you understand what I mean), and thats part of the reason the shows gone on so long, the storylines have become more character based rather than Plot driven like S1 was. When a new character comes in it takes another Series to explore that character ect But I think when Harry either leaves (or God forbid) dies that'll be the end of the show, I could imagine them ending the show with Harry walking away from MI5 while the rest of the team continue their jobs as normal (Not saying thats a good ending or the ending I wanna see though) its needs to be more interesting than that, but not sure how they'd round it off completely Okies rant over Kudos, the BBC and the writters have said nothing about this being the last Series, so it gives a little hope You and I...We're made of secrets-Ruth Evershed S10 "If it was up to me and Peter they'd have done it loads by now"- Nicola Walker |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
Haha, don't worry Forever Secret, I'm still very positive. There's always hope! I was just expressing my opinion, like I said I shall wait like everyone else.
To be honest I'm not expecting happy but I would like hopeful. (Can't believe I'm about to say this) I wouldn't even mind if they both lived, or died as long as it was together. The most heartbreaking end for me would be one lives and one dies. Where did i put that cake I actually think either Kudos is waiting until they've finished filming to announce, or they won't announce it till just before it airs. Look at all the conversation it's creating everybody speculating one way or the other. Its a great way to drum up interest and promotion, the more people get frustrated, the more its going to get talked about. |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
I can't imagine a more dull ending than Harry walking away and everyone else carrying on. If that was all the writers could come up with as the climax after ten years of thrills, I might end up planning a few terrorist atrocities of my own in retaliation!
It also makes me want to scream that the writers talk about wanting a happy ending for Harry and Ruth as if they have no control over the situation. As I have said before, surely it is not beyond the wit of these truly superb writers to write a credible, fabulous, exciting, passionate and happy ending for these two. Anyone can predict the sad stuff, it would seem. How about rising to the challenge and being a little different. Even lovely Nicola let me down by saying that in "real life" when things get complicated people often end up just doing nothing. Well, I've always thought the whole point about Spooks was that it was nothing like real life. So why can't they shove some of that high octane hocum into this relationship, grab it by the (gorgeous, velvet) lapels and .........well, you get my point. |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
I would be happy with a rounded but open ending so that Kudos could make one-off feature length Christmas Specials. Otherwise it needs a final but reasonably happy ending, with at least Harry and Ruth being together in some way at the very end.

If I remember rightly there was a question to the writers about H/R and Ruth getting a happier storyline in series ten and they replied with something about how she would still have a lot to work through in series ten which I took to mean she would still be pushing Harry away, though of course I could be wrong entirely! That does seem to add up to what Nicola said in the Ian Wylie interview way back though about realistically what would happen with Ruth post 8.1 and then she said something about Ruth falling on her sword. Tbh, I can only see R/H getting a definitive happy ending in the very last Spooks episode with lots of tooing and froing before that. That is unless the writers decide that the tears at the end of series nine were about moving on/forward and I am therefore totally wrong again. I've always thought it would be cool for there to be a kind of low key Spooks ending where everyone goes off to The George or somewhere for drinks and Ruth and Harry resolve their differences and that can be the end. |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
Funnily enough I was googling around Spooks and entered "is it the last series" and came across huge speculation and determined conclusions that this is the last series on media sites and forums alike. But guess what, they were all talking about season 9. And we got a 10. I don't know why it is people get so fixated on last seasons and rumours etc. No news is good news surely? I'm happy to keep watching as long as they go on making. Compared to all the other poo on the waves, even Spooks at half pelt is better than anything else. 6 episodes is better than none. Sometimes we should step back and appreciate the magic they manage to produce in ever-difficult circumstances. I don't want to think about endings, because I don't want it to end. Furthermore, that's just robbing myself of viewing pleasure. Neither do I want to imprison myself with a determined outcome - or else! Let's see where it takes us, on an open page, isn't that the beauty of drama? Of course I love H&R and would love to see something happen with that but I also love the suspense. I'm happy with the thought they will have a lot of scenes together in S10, I just love their chemistry.
I do agree about Harry being essential to the show though. And I have never picked up on any signs from PF that he is ready to go. He's moving house to get more privacy, suggesting to me he wants to keep working. He's always stressed he'd go on as long as the show not just because he loves it but because he has always found getting work difficult and he now feels blessed to have regular work at his time in life. I haven't seen anything suggesting he's making changes to move away from Spooks, what did I miss? I'm also happy that it's left open for a year out or one off specials and that couldn't happen if Harry is killed off. |

He's been on the show since the beginning and I don't think it would be wise to replace him. I can't explain why- other than the fact that he's been here ever since the very start (Series 1 episode 1) and that his character seems to be the most central. I didn't hear about PF moving house, but I'm glad he wants to stay on and he loves his job. PF is awesome and I respect him. |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
From what I have read in the interviews w PF it has been clear to me that he enjoys being in Spooks and respects every season he is allowed to be in it. And he seems to be very happy just to work with this show...
When it comes to HR then I myself want to see happy ending for those two... and I mean it doesnt have to be married happily ever after ending but you know some nice ending that brings smile to our faces... and if the writers have trouble to come up with such a scenarios I guess 99% of the people on this forum would be ready to send in their own last HR episode suggestions... |
