The end of spooks...

RE: The end of spooks...
I have to agree with you, as much as I want Harry and Ruth together, it can't Become the show, the show is better than that. If they did get together it would nice to see it take a back seat and have a "Bigger picture", Harry and Ruth are just a part of Spooks, the heart of the show yes, but a soppy romantic ending isn't Spooksy enough really Wink

Very sad to read about it ending but its not unexpected Wink

If that's how it will end I hope it's more sophisticated.

Yes, please, as much as I want Harry and Ruth together I don't want the show to turn all romantic and not keeping the show's philosophy...

A romantic Spooks does not exist. I am curious. What is your idea of sophisticated ending? The tedious killing of the main characters, of Harry, of Ruth or of both? The decommission of Harry or the shutdown of Section D?

RE: The end of spooks...
My wish for the end to be more sophisticated was specifically in reference to an HR ending. I don't want the show to end with Harry and Ruth looking windswept and declaring eternal love, which is what that image implies. It smacks of fan fiction (to which I am not averse) and has little to do with the themes or storylines that have made the show what it is.

I've expressed elsewhere that I think the show should end with Harry leaving the Grid, not necessarily under pleasant circumstances, with another crisis starting.

Make no mistake I want Harry and Ruth to make it, but not under the conditions this image seems to suggest.

(I just realised that I extrapolated the idea that this was the final image for the show from nowhere. So I may have jumped the gun slightly.)

I really don't think we can read anything into that image. I do wonder if the Sun perhaps jumped the gun in releasing that photo. It could be a totally angst ridden scene. Harry has to flee? There's a boat waiting for him? Who knows.

I do Want them to get together. A 5 min happy scene between them is not going to ruin the last ten years for me. They both deserve happiness after loosing so much and so many colleagues. I hope the next scene is a big kiss between them and Harry finally is happy with his life. I know this isn't Pretty Woman but I want the fairytale.

RE: The end of spooks...
I did not take that picture too seriously. It smacks too much of a romantic pulp novel.

We know that Spooks is much more than that. Yes, Tea Lady, we all want a happy ending for H/R. I would not want either that Harry leaves under a cloud. I just hope that Spooks does justice to PF and NW who have invested so much in their characters over the years. Kudos should also try not to disapoint the loyal Spooks fans, whether they are H/R fans or not.

Quick question: Where did the Sun get that picture? Is it fake or a real picture?

Yeah, I want Harry/Ruth to be the B-story to some kick-ass spying thing in the last season. I'm not taking that picture too seriously - for all we know that's in episode 2, and then Harry's secret from the past comes to light and it's all downhill from there.

I do want them to get together, though, but I'd like it better if that happens at the start of the season. And I don't think that the last shot being about Harry/Ruth somehow would be that terrible, as long as they earn it through whatever else happens in this season.

Or you know, they can do one of those split-screen thingies with a happy H/R on one side, and the Houses of Parliament blowing up in the other. Tongue

RE: The end of spooks...
That pic has got to be the Sun photoshop job - god it looks like a Catherine Cookson on the Moors type romance novel!

Agree and disagree with all of you at the same time, I'm juts so sadSad
I also really agree that as much as I love and want to see a happy H&R, there are other aspects of the show. Jane's comments that there needs to be newer spy dramas to refelct a changing world baffle me in particular. You can hardly call Spooks stuck in the past, it's success has been it's ability to evolve "with the times". Deeply disappointed, I can't believe how much so (it's a TV programme after all)

Whoever mentioned Casualty hit it on the head - there is such dross on the TV and Spooks is so refreshing. Catching an average 5.5m viewers for 10 years indicates a solid fan base and they have assumed that tidying up the H&R story means the end of Spooks. Really? How sad.

I hate to say it. But I think that we should read in Kudos's words that the new spy dramas will reflect not a changing world, but bring in a younger main cast.

You do realise that the Twitter Spooks are all fans pretending to be Spooks characters. None of them are from Kudoes or even sanctioned by Kudos.
