The end of spooks...

RE: The end of spooks...
It seems to me that Spooks often does not reflect real life. British or American spies are not bumped off so regularly. That's why the former Head of MI-5 hates the TV show. Unfortunately, at least in the USA, TV shows seem to prefer characters in their 30s-40s. I admit that British TV shows are very different in that respect.

I do not think that Kudos's new spy dramas will feature again such great actors as PF and NW and capture their incredible chemistry. That is a true loss!

I agree a very true loss. The way the H and R storyline came about just from two actors joking around off camera and their chemistry is somehting that cannot just be replicated by other actors on a similar show. It's a one of thing I think we all agree.

You do realise that the Twitter Spooks are all fans pretending to be Spooks characters. None of them are from Kudoes or even sanctioned by Kudos.

only one is Rupert Penry-jones he tweets and is tweeting alot abotu whitechapel s3 at the moment his twitter ID is http://twitter.com/rpenryj

he hasnt really mentioned the end of spooks other than a tweet that said he hasnt watched since he left and agrees with everyone!

RE: The end of spooks...
According to Sam's twitter responses, they didn't know from the beginning of writing that it would be the end, but they knew "in time" to write a proper ending. So it seems as though perhaps during the writing process this "natural end" Jane Featherstone speaks of emerged. I am pleased it will have a definitive ending, but I disagree it had to be now.

SO the actors (notably PF and NW) did know by the end of shooting...must have been pretty emotional for them.

I know a lot of people are saying it's the right call etc., I still feel another couple of seasons could've been made before killing it. In Ian Wylie's post it's interesting PF's remark about "true budget cuts" the fact there will only be 6 episodes does also suggest (reading between the lines) that money has constrained them and this has also aided the decision. Perhaps they just can't continue to make it the way they want to make it.

I think it's terribly sad. And the fact Kudos are making a new spy show Morton doesn't make sense to me at all. New cast, new format, but surely if they have "spy stories", the comparison to Spooks is inevitable so I hope for their sake it is different enough.

Sorry to sound so sour, I'm not yet at the stage to be full of grace and gratitude for the 10 great years. Angry

RE: The end of spooks...
Really weird that it was Kudos who called the ending - why shoot yourself in the foot?

I'll accept whatever ending they come up with provided it is definitive but can you believe them?

Someone obviously broke protocol a few months ago which is why all the "leaks" have appeared.

RE: The end of spooks...
I'm feeling ridiculously sad about this, and have decided to call it a day on this site. I want to watch the final series with my own thoughts and not be driven insane by comments about how romantic or happy equals soppy and out of character. I'm going to put my faith in the writers and enjoy it, shed a tear and then one day marvel that two actors could have such a unique and mesmerising effect on me.

Thanks to everyone who has been so generous with their links, info, stories and cds. I have really, really appreciated them all.

Hope everyone really enjoys the last series!

RE: The end of spooks...
i am hopeing for an ending like ashes to ashes! alex and gene are very much ruth and harry in the emotional sense (not comparing harry to gene) i dont know if i want them to get together in that sense! i dont know if i would believe it.. i liked that in ashes the aknolwaged there feelings but realised (like adam and ros did) that if they were together they wouldnt be them!

i have faith in Kudos they can end shows well!

(i started a #tag on twitter #greatestspooksmoments have had a great few so far...)

RE: The end of spooks...
I have not really watch Ashes to Ashes and cannot comment about it.

I just know that Harry and Ruth share the same commitment to protect the country, have a strong intellectual bond and are deeply attuned to each other. Let's us not forget the sexual attraction. Simply put, they love each other. If emotional, intellectual and sexual compatibility is not the definition of a strong relationship or marriage, I do not know what it is.

RE: The end of spooks...
People always seem compare Spooks with A2A. I cannot see anything in common other than they are both produced by KUDOS. Surely, wasn't A2A written from the start with the end in mind. The end made the rest of it make sense. Spooks was always written as a open ended show running from season to season, normally ending like most seasonal shows with a cliffhanger. The majority of characters who have been killed off over the years left because they wanted to. Spooks wouldn't have lasted 10 years if the original cast from S1 were still in it!

The ending of Spooks actually provides the writers with an answer to their usual dilemas. Nobody has to be killed off and there is no need for a cliffhanger as there is no next season. Therefore getting H/R together becomes plausable, in fact I think this is the only chance that will happen.

Todays news has left me feeling really upbeat about the forthcoming S10. I am confident that KUDOS will give a happy conclusion and would not want to depress us just because that's Spooks. As to an audacious ending, I took that to mean bold and daring, not heartbreaking.

Just my pennys worth!
