Series 10 - Episode 2 Discussion

Oh, poor Tariq. But some annoying plot faults:

* Sasha seems to have left his and his mother's finger prints and DNA on that mobile phone
* Why on earth would Calum walk to MI-6 with a secure laptop? He should have gone in a car - he'd have been driven out of MI-5s secure car park into MI-6's gated entrance.
* Why didn't Harry make sure neither he nor Elena were followed?
* Why would MI-5 allow a secure link at Tariq's home and let him phone in a request? Secure links should be done through online encryption.
* Why didn't he have a spare mobile phone so he could talk to Harry in the taxi and get to a hospital?

And they really should have pulled all the assets as soon as the laptop was stolen...they never learn, do they?

Ok, too nerdy...but a bit of common sense wouldn't have gone amiss!

Yes I doubt that any security service would allow access from home other than via some private link and even then using heavy duty encryption.

And the pension arrangements for agents seem a bit roapy - id expect a pension if i got burnt. And given how good she was a name change and a new job as an agent runner or ananalyst.

Poor Tariq, it's so sad, I knew it was curtains as soon as that guy bumped him...but how did they know, I know someone bugged his computer, but how did they know about Tariq at all, unless there's someone on the inside?
Loved the heart to heart with Harry and Erin, very touching, its a pity he can't talk to Ruth the same way.
Ruth, she's only interested in getting Harry to talk about the Garviks, it seems, I don't entirely trust her motives, as far as Harry is concerned....there's just something?
I'm almost sure its Elena on the footage Tariq saw....what's her game? Not good!

A short post as comms are a bit difficult this week.

What a super episode. I really found myself lost in the story and I really felt for the naive asset that was just left to fry. No doubt she will be picked off by Russia in the months or years to come.

Loved the very subtle movement in the H/R story. Those that thought this series would be all about them should eat their hats. Loved the confrontation between Harry and Ruth. I think Harry knows this is all going to end badly so is deliberately pushing Ruth as far away as he can at this point. It's not very far, but enough to keep the fall out crushing her when Towers finds out about Elena.

Loved Sasha this week. Protecting the ones he loves. Both his mother and father while trying to do his job. Like Harry hes finding it near impossible.

I do wonder whether Erin was saying to Harry to stop making excuses for a rubbish private life.

As for Tariq. Well !!! I didn't see that coming and was shouting at the TV. Did he pay the taxi driver though??

Why didn't Tariq ask to borrow the Taxi drivers phone, he could have phoned someone, anyone!

oh my god, i can't believe tariq died! that's so sad :-( he was on of my favourite characters, i really got to like him during series 9 especially. that's such a sudden death and so typical of spooks. no hinting towards something happening until the camera shot that was a bit eerire as he walked in to his flat. i thought there were going to be people in there, but there wern't.

im actually really saddended by his death, more so than the likes of ros and lucas, but probably not more than poor adam

i'm really starting to suspect that episode 6, they're going to kill off harry or ruth, i highly doubt they'll go for a happy ending where they both walk into the sunset.. this isn't hollywood. in some ways i hope the ending of series 10 isn't happy as i think it would go against the 9 previous series where someone major has died, or a major cliff-hanger has been left there.

i thought it was a great episode in all, and cant wait for next week. i had to watch it on iplayer coz only got back from work at 10

I thought her review of Harry's file was just like a spook. He won't discuss the issues, despite the confrontations between them, so why not do you your own investigating...especially with their history. You don't think she has his best interests?

Have to agree with the comments about Elena. Defintely her silhouette in Tariq's video.

Here we go again.

Ruth was a traitor in S9.

Ruth is a traitor in S10.

Why would Ruth join the Russians/Jim Coaver/the impersonator in killing Tariq whom she loved like a son? To take revenge on Harry because of his affair with Elena? For George/Nico for Pete's sake? Tariq was killed the Russian-way with a poisoned sharp object.

In fact, I liked the episode very much. It was fast-paced like a James Bond movie. I was worried whether the asset was going to make it. I knew that Tariq was going to die, but not in that way. That was a total surprise. I was more concerned that they (whoever they are) would strangle him or shoot. It was very suspenseful. We expected Tariq to make it and at the last moment he was killed in nearly a casual way. Why was Calum near the taxi? Was it near the Thames House?

I am very sad. I loved Tariq. He was cute and so much in love with his job. I wonder how Section D is going to react to his death. I hope that they are not going to brush over his death.

I liked Erin too. It was very hard for her to drop the asset. The talk between Harry and Erin was touching. She still has hope that she can combine her job with her family life. Harry seemed skeptical for a good reason.

I even liked Sasha. He was not as out of control as in the first episode. His mother tried to seduce Harry again, but it did not work too well or I thought so. They might have in common in Sasha or perhaps something more. Who knows? Ilya Gavrik was a perfect baddie, so sinister and smart.

In spite of Harry's brusque attitude toward Ruth, I thought that Harry was trying to protect Ruth from the Gavriks and the outfall of his affair with Elena. He seemed to have tears in his eyes at the end of their conversation. Was he faking his emotion because he asked Ruth to look into Jim Coaver? Was he using Ruth? If that is the case, I give up on Harry, he is a jerk and suggest that Ruth should move on to the HS team. At least Ruth defended her point of view with spirit. I thought Harry was not as emotional with Elena, even though they spoke about Sasha. But I am losing it! Vicky Frost thinks that Harry and Elena are still in love! I really do not know what to think anymore.

I really can't believe that it is Ruth who Tariq saw on the screen. It looks like Elena, but perhaps it is somebody posing as Elena. Could the old face be a woman, such as Juliet, Zoe or Tessa?

I wish there were more scenes between Harry and Ruth, but the episode was so thrilling I did not miss them too much. It would have been nice to see Ruth smiling at Harry or have some hints that their relationship was improving like in episode 1.

I hope that episode 3 will be as exciting as episode 2. I am still hoping for a more positive H/R interaction and a gradual decrease of Harry and Elena sighting.

i loved this episode!

it was so sad, them killing off tariq but i think this episode needed some kind of sadness and shock as i was starting to convince myself that my favourites are safe right until the end.

loved the harry and ruth scene tonight, so happy that she is standing up for herself which she has previously failed to do and she is definately right about harry being totally compromised with the gavriks.

i actually really like sasha..first episode i got a bit annoyed with him because he was on the screen every few minutes but i think he was one of the better characters in this episode. it was nice to see from his point of view the lengths he would go through to protect his mother.

overall..brilliant episode and the series is going well so far

more harry and ruth developments needed though.

Taaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrriiiiiiiq!!!! I'm SO sad. No one could deliver pseudo-techno jargon quite like him. But I guess whenever the camera follows him, it's usually bad news. Glad he busted Calum's balls there at the beginning, though. And Dimitri's reaction was classic!

And Ruth a baddie? Are you smoking crack?? I think Ruth is going to be the ultimate hero at the end of it all. But at what price? She always seems to be one step ahead, doesn't she? Bloody brilliant woman. I like how she challenged Harry, but without the season 9 anger. She might have been in the background this episode, but her wheels are turning.

The scenes between Harry and Elena are absolutely heartbreaking. Of course, I want to think Elena is playing Harry, but I think Illya may have more to do with it. Maybe he's blackmailing her? He found out about her and Harry and is threatening Sasha so that she will do some dirty work? Or maybe they're ALL being played...forced to do someone's dirty work in order to save the ones they love.

And the plot thickens...

Right, better go unclench my butt-cheeks. I think a whisky is in my near future...
