RE: Series 10 - Episode 2 Discussion
Tariq!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Haven't cried like that since Danny. I am a little surprised at how much I have come to love Tariq. Never thought I would love another Grid Geek like I loved Malcolm. More power to ya Shazad. First gig out of drama school. Go to, young man!
Holy tap-dancing Jesus! That was a helluva a gripping episode! I was really rooting for Martha to get away from Ilya's hit-squad. Yelled at the screen a lot there. I thought she was going to bolt after Erin handed her the keys at the safe-house. The Greek tragedy continues, doesn't it? Shade of Oedipus trying to avoid taking down his father by...well...taking down his father! Perhaps a little Medea too? Time will tell. I thought it was Elena in Tariq's CCTV too. Happy that the ensemble feel of the programme has gone through to the second episode. Liking Erin. A lot. A new kind of spy, wanting it all, in contrast to Harry. Nice touch there KUDOs. Interesting slight moral dilemma for Dimitri when Harry tells him to set up the agents murder as a suicide. Remember Lucas telling him "Walk before you can run"? Dimitri passed it on to Calum. lol! Damn! Alice Krige is one striking woman! That white dressing gown shot was stunning. I saw what Harry saw in her 30 years ago. Great scene between the two of them in the opera house. Visually, there was a lot of white in this episode. White, white, white... with a generous smattering of black and grey to set off the...wait for it...WHITE! Another nod to a common Film Noir technique, IMO. Harry and Elena's meeting interspersed with Sasha murdering his co-agent interspersed with the dancer reminds me of something. I feel like it's a direct filmatic quote from something. Felt very Hitchcock or Welles to me. I dunno. I'll place it later. At any rate, it's very Film Noir to have the juxtaposition of something very brutal going on under something so very beautiful. Clearly Sasha needs some tutoring from the old man in the efficacy of keeping a neck-tie at hand. Funniest line award goes to..... Jim Coaver for "I thought it was Springsteen." I almost spit my scotch all over my laptop. Clever bastard. I don't know about Coaver being the impersonator. The evil American? Done already. Several times. Not that he isn't involved. They all are. Maybe he is the impersonator but that is not all there is to it? At the end of this I realize that I have said not one thing about Harry and Ruth. I think this is being underplayed perfectly. Don't need any more than they are giving me. Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

Seems an awful shame if Erin doesn't use it when she's basically sacrficied her life to get it to her. I'm pretty sure the intel they got from Martha will feature in future episodes. It's all about Ilya Gavrik, after all. And that chip Tariq removed Series 10.3 Spoiler: show |

RE: Series 10 - Episode 2 Discussion
This series has a different feel to the last few series which were frantic in comparrison.
I doubted Ruth is the traitor and I'm a Lucas fan. I'm sure the writers wouldn't do that to the fans. This was an interesti ng episode in that it showed the cost of being a spy in lots of way. As per normal with Spooks you need to watch it more than once to pick up all the details |

I cannot believe they killed off Tariq - one of my favorite characters of all time I'm expecting them all to be picked off in the end and I can totally believe the writers would turn Ruth in to the traitor - look what they did to Lucas and how they made Adam the most irritating break-down character ever.

At the risk of sounding like a Lucas fan, are we sure Tariq is dead? Harry did say he knew a friendly pathologist? Perhaps this way Tariq can secretly carry out the research into the Russians and the Americans. Ruth did whinge a little when Harry had previously asked her to do this. HARRY BOSS - RUTH EMPLOYEE.

Time will tell. I thought it was Elena in Tariq's CCTV too. We can already class Elena as Medea, as she is betraying her husband to the English. But I suspect you meant it in the sense that she may also be leading Harry around by the, er, nose. I do hope we soon get more information about why she became an agent for MI5 - was it just Harry's irresistible sex appeal (which I can totally believe ) or did she have a deeper motivation? That is if she isn't playing Harry and MI5 at their own game, of course. The jury is still out on that one, but at this stage I continue to lean towards her being honest with Harry and being a pawn in a greater unknown scheme. Quote: Happy that the ensemble feel of the programme has gone through to the second episode. Agreed on all these points. I like how we see little things about these characters through how they handle what is being thrown at them - Erin trying so hard to be the hard, badass spy she no doubt believes Harry to be, but failing at the final hurdle when it comes to the possiblity of sacrificing her family life for the job. And Dimitri's little reactions to his colleagues and with what he's asked to do with the dead asset - slowly realising how distasteful this job can really be. And Calum, of course, learning so tragically that every mistake can have the highest cost - in this case the life of Tariq. Quote:I don't know about Coaver being the impersonator. The evil American? Done already. Several times. Not that he isn't involved. They all are. Maybe he is the impersonator but that is not all there is to it? I'm definitely leaning towards this view. I don't think the identification of the impersonator is the endgame here, it's going to be the key that unlocks something much darker and more threatening. |

RUTH EMPLOYEE MIGHT LEAVE HARRY BOSS for better offer and greater appreciation. As much as I love the chemistry between PF and NW, I feel for the character Ruth. It would be in her best interest to accept the HS's promotion. Harry is in a downfall spiral and is going to be retired or worse after the summit. Ruth has a great future ahead of her and Harry is becoming an albatross round her neck. Unfortunately, knowing Ruth, she will not leave Harry because she loves him too much. |
