Oh give over. Stop being so melodramatic.

I say again, anyone who expected or wanted happiness shouldn't have been watching Spooks. The show did what it did well and I would have hated for it to become something it wasn't after 10 series. That was the whole point of the last 10 minutes, to show that even though there has been terrible sacrifice, Harry carries on doing what he does best because that's who he is.

Making Harry leave the service just because Ruth died would've been a horrible betrayal of his character and who he is.

How are people not getting this?

Just as I was coming back to edit my post to say that I wouldn't appreciate someone telling me it was just a TV show! I know this - it doesn't make me feel better.

RE: Series 10 - Episode 6 Discussion
i am in the minority of people i think who enjoyed the ep. i was on the edge of my seat for most of it, with my heart in my mouth!

So much to take in within 60 mins.

i guessed sasha was going to hurt someone when i saw him with the glass, i assumed Harry didnt think it would be Ruth, but outstanding acting from Peter and Nicola.

BUT!... this reaction reminds me of what happened at the end of Ashes to Ashes and the argument stands, the premis of the show isnt the relationship between two charactors no matter how much of a focal point they have been in the past, it isnt the harry and ruth show (or the gene and Alex show) they were never going to get a happy ending Spooks isnt like that, and to do so would ruin the history of the show to keep a section of the fandom happy and a tv show should NOT be written jyst to keep fans happy. i know people will be annoyed like they were about gene and alex's kiss then him leaving her, its just not what its meant to be, and watching last night im with Peter on that it wouldnt be Spooks if they ran off together and lived happy ever after, like Adam and Ros, not meant to be.

As sad as it was (and i cried like a baby) it felt right to me that Harry or Ruth died in this ep, its just the way spooks is.

LOVED Tom Quinn, only seconds on screen byt really made me happy that Harry had called Tom to do this. so much for 'of course you will never see me again'.

the Wall of all the fallen section D officers was a simple yet lovely touch very much appreciated by me.

as for harry gooing back to work, what else has he got, he lost his family, he lost ruth, he still has his work, and first and formost harry Pearce protects the UK. Also where else will he be reminded of Ruth constantly! i wonder if he will spend his breaks down at the memorial.

needs a second viewing, but i for one am very sad its over, would have liked a wee montage of charactors at the end but cant get everything, yes there were faults but this is not the time, lets rememebr spooks for what it was a cracking TV show that lauinched the careers of many great TV actors and gave us hours of entertainment and discussion

Brilliant series, brilliant episode, brilliant acting, but devastated by the ending. Right now I regret having ordered the DVD. I don't think I can ever watch Spooks again for the simple fact that I am not left with good memories of it. I knew Tom was the 'old face' coming back: it was his voice in the promos (can't believe everyone didn't catch that). Good, believable, but sad (second ending) that all Harry has left in life is his work. I know Spooks is known for killing its heroes but a last ever episode is different ... isn't it, writers????Suicida

NO!! That's precisely the point. A good television show does not betray itself right at the end, that's what makes it a good television show. It sticks by what it does no matter who it is and what they meant to people.

How any of you can call yourself fans when you want the show to betray its ideals just because it's the end is beyond me.

All I will say to those people is this, if you honestly expected Harry and Ruth to have a happy ending or even Harry to leave just because Ruth died, then you've been watching the wrong show for 9 years and you shouldn't call yourself a fan.

I have to respectively disagree with you there Nitrus. Just because you wanted a different ending, you are still a fan. I know, because that person is me.

I totally get it was classic Spooks. The twists and turns, the double crossing, the attack on Britain. The life or death choices. All brilliant. PF, NW, and SRB were all sublime.

I just don't see how choosing an ending that was almost the same and as tragic (if not more,) as most other series of Spooks, is ending the show on a high. It ended like all the other series have. Why didn't they do something different and give our hero some peace? Peace doesn't have to mean marrying Ruth.

And as for Ruth, her life and death was more tragic than any of the other Spooks on that memorial wall, yet she deserved more for her loyalty and service. She died believing she never deserved happiness. The saddest life and death of all.

Not all of us who didn't like the ending, wanted the "Ruth on a unicorn" Sam Vincent talked about. That is a small majority.

There were a thousand other choices as to how to end the series. IMO the writers chose the most cruel, which only makes good TV for the few. I feel it would have been less cruel to have even killed Harry and have left Ruth in her new house. Harry and Ruth could have decided never to get together. The series ends with them all back on the Grid. There were loads of choices. Just because you wanted one of these, and dreamt about one of these endings for years, still makes you a fan. If we all got the same things from Spooks, and wanted the same from Spooks, life would have been pretty boring on this forum over the last two years.

The character Harry Pearce deserved more for all he gave. The character Ruth Evershed, deserved to live. As simple as that.

But life, and this show, has never been about just desserts. If it was then Danny wouldn't have died after being so brave, Wes still have both his parents, Jo would never have been raped, Zaf would not have died after being so alone in fear and agony and yes, Ruth would still be analysing.

It is, as you say, heartbreaking that Ruth died believing that she wouldn't get a happy ending. And therein lies the power.

RE: Series 10 - Episode 6 Discussion
I don't know what to say about the last ep. ever! Huh
There are some things that I don't understand: is Harry forgiven by the CIA for the kidnapp of Jim Cover (it did lead to his death, didn't it?), is the CIA such a bunch of sweet guys that they forgive Erin and Dimitri for stealing Harry back from them, too? I mean there's no mention of reprisals what so ever? ( how did E&D knew that Harry was in car 2?)
I really liked seeing Tom back, his appearance may lasted longer, but is he doing Harry's dirty work? That doesn't seem like Harry at all, especially when it concerns revenging the death of the women he loved! Or is Tom recruted by HS?
The scene where we saw the memorial was heartbraking, but I think that it's not fair that Lucas isn't on it, he did spent 8 years of his life in prison for queen and country, no matter what his name was.
I guess we could have expected that there wasn't to be a 'happy ending', working for MI5 seems equal to having no luck in love, ever! I do feel very sorry for the H/R fans who kept their fingers crossed!

I wish this wasn't the endExclamation

It's "a struggle for heaven and earth. Where there is one law: fight or die. And one rule: resist or serve."

I just can't comprehend how people don't get what that ending was all about, the significance of it and how it ties in with everything Spooks has done and been for the last 9 years.

Perhaps it is a bit harsh to question people's fandom but for me, in my opinion, it would have been wrong for Harry to have had a happy ending. That's just not what the show has been getting at for the last 10 series.

The show has always been trying to portray a fictional image of life in the security services, and in that fictional image, there is no happy ending and that's make me respect Harry so much more. He does all this year after year, knowing that there is no happy ending.

If Spooks had a happy ending, it would be like saying that everyone from all series had been doing it because they knew or they thought there might be a happy ending and that is a horrible defamation of their memory and honour.

Yes, but it could have been. At the end, the could have gone down that route. It's the fact they chose to heap more misery on Harry, I don't understand.

See my post before yours. It shows why I think they did it and why they should have done it all along.

Also, I don't mean to accuse anyone of not being a fan, you wouldn't be here if you didn't self-define as that. I just wonder whether some people watched Spooks because of HR rather than because it was Spooks and that's why some of the people who don't like the ending are annoyed.

Tea Lady, that doesn't mean you. Smile
