New Guy Here
New guy. I like MI-5 its great except for the ever changing cast. Just when I get to like someone BAM! their toast.
I'm an American and live in Vancouver WA within eye sight of the now dormant Mt. St. Helens. I cringe every time when I see the name "Spooks." When I was growing up near Detroit, Michigan "Spooks" was a racial slur akin to the "N" word. And to see it written is kind of unnerving. No wonder in the US it's MI-5. |

RE: New Guy Here
Welcome, Mike!
I hear you about the title. It is a bit jarring to our Midwestern ears at first, but I find that I got used to it. It helps me to think of American English and British English as two completely different languages! Now, I can't help but refer to it as "Spooks" and "MI-5" feels wrong. Odd.... Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |
