I did think that in Episode 7 Harry would have had a sit down with Lucas about it, but turns out, Ros said something to him. Maybe Harry told Ros to ask him about it...
Still doesn't make sense as to why he wouldn't have had a "nice chat" with Lucas about it....
Maybe he has something else in mind for Lucas

Harry lies to Lucas a lot and I don't understand why Lucas doesn't get annoyed with him, but then Lucas seems such a quiet/gentle sort of a person,

In episode 8.7, Harry gave in quickly to the Home Secretary's request to stop his officer going in, even though Harry disagreed with the Home Secretary plans for the siege because, I think, Harry knew that Lucas would disobey him and go into the school (after all Lucas seems to ignore Harry's orders most of the time). For once Lucas behaviour was predicted correctly by Harry with the desired outcome.

Yes, I agree that H probably did not agree with the HS. But insubordination isn't something that one forgets, especially Harry. Even a simple "Hey, mate, get your bloody act together" would suffice.

If Ros does not make it to series 9, does anyone think Harry would make Lucas Section Chief ? I still think Harry and Lucas have problems in their relationship. Harry clearly cares for Lucas on a personal level but I don't think he trusts him enough professionally to make him Section Chief.
I hope series 9 develops their relationship further, especially why it took Harry so long to get him back from Russia.

I cant believe for one moment that Harry would make Lucas section chief going on his past performance. If he does, perhaps at the end of episode 9.1, then Lucas would have to have done something incredible during that episode for Harry to promote him.

Harry only promoted Ros after she came back for Harry and got herself "killed" and Harry realised he could now trust her. I think it would make the Harry/Lucas relationship far more interesting if he interjects someone else into the section chief role, which pushes the Harry/Lucas relationship further apart, but more likely to bring it to a head eventually.

With all this forgiving Harry does with Lucas, you would think Harry was his father or something.....now that would be a story.

I'm glad this thread has been resurrected again - I was starting to wonder if I'd created it in the first place!

I find this one of the most interesting dynamics on the show. I don't think Harry was responsible for Lucas being captured nor do I think Harry's first attempt to get him back was in 2008. Sometimes it's just a matter of getting the right horse to trade at the right time, and the Russians would only have given Lucas up once they were certain they couldn't get anything terribly useful out of him. A little like sports clubs trading, if you will, except much more serious.

I will be very disappointed if we don't get more of this relationship unfolding in Season 9. It is one of the biggest things I am looking for in the new season and the successful development/demise of that will be a big factor in how successful the season is too, I think.

Now that would be an interesting ep -- how many times and when H tried to get L back before he actually succeeded. Can see it now, a bunch of flashbacks and montages detailing how L got captured in the first place and then what strings H pulled during what ops to retrieve him. Maybe even H in Russia, trying and failing to stage a prison break.

That would be an awesome episode, I would definitely like to see a flashback ep of how Lucas got captured. It could feature a young Tom!
