I can't remember for certain Beatriz but I think he told him that his daughter held out and didn't spill. He had previously told him that she gave up the info so he could get the hiding place (since at that point nobody knew it) and in the car (I think) he told him the truth. He may have added that they were keeping it safe to give him a sort of fake lift in spirits. Also, he doesn't tell Ruth everything. There are most likely things that only he should know (as he sees it.)

As I said, I haven't had a chance to watch it again so this may be wrong. Maybe someone else can remember.

Before I check this, I need to see that pond.
