I found a really nice one in John Lewis (own brand), it's really nice. Fitted, warm, not too long, and it's not heavy! :-)

Now, a question. I've noticed that the pockets on a lot of coats are sewn shut. Why is this? Are you supposed to snip them open so they are usable as pockets, or leave them be?

Never, never buy a cheap winter coat JHClare, not unless you really have to. My MaxMara coat is on it's 6th Winter, it's super warm, stylish and I still get complemented on it every year. Oh and I still have the pockets sewn up on it! Get some nice gloves I would go for the John Lewis one, although I do buy loads of stuff from H&M, but not coats.
