RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion

It wasn't a huge surprise that Lucas left, he had done three series and so was expected, it is about the length of time the characters get. The whole no-qualms-about-killing-off-main-characters thing is a double edged sword in many ways. On one hand, it is suspenseful and keeps viewers on the edge of their seats never really sure if a character will make out of a situation alive, it does create real genuine suspense and danger that the character may really die because viewers know the show will have no issues with offing anyone they want. But on the other hand, the viewers can be disillusioned by this and become detached from the characters, I mean, if no one is safe, if anyone can die in any moment, then why waste time caring or become connected to the characters when they can be taken away at any moment without even showing their fullest potentials? I think this is the danger that Spooks can be slightly tipping into, that some viewers may think it isn't worth the time to invest in these characters just to see them being cast aside.
