Series 9 Episode 2 discussion

This was on last Saturday night and I found these comments of my mother's rather amusing. Thought I'd share.

Mum: Hmph. Well. I certainly hope this Lucas plot goes somewhere now that he is taking over the storyline.
Me: It does.
Mum: It seems kind of weird that the writers would let us know he is bad right from the start... ruins the suspense a bit doesn't it? There better be a massive plot twist with this or I will be very bored by episode eight.
Me: Oh don't worry there is a massive plot twist.
Mum: As long as it all comes together and makes sense I'm happy...
Me: Er... um... weeeelll... you'll just have to see.

Anyway, on a rewatch on Saturday I found this to be just an average episode- not bad but not great either. I honestly don't get all of the SM hate. It's not her fault she was given minimal backstory and character and I don't find her acting to be anything worse than Dmitri or Tariq and she's legions above SC I found the way this story was told a bit repetitive (with the different perspectives of the same thing) but I liked that we found out a bit about Beth.

Honestly though, my favourite episodes from this series were all of the ones that furthered Ruth's character developement and seeings as she was hardly in this one, my attention wasn't as held as usual. From memory I really liked Ruth in 9.1 (I think this was one of the best of the series), 9,4, 9.6, 9.7 and 9.8.
