RE: The end of spooks...
According to Sam's twitter responses, they didn't know from the beginning of writing that it would be the end, but they knew "in time" to write a proper ending. So it seems as though perhaps during the writing process this "natural end" Jane Featherstone speaks of emerged. I am pleased it will have a definitive ending, but I disagree it had to be now.
SO the actors (notably PF and NW) did know by the end of shooting...must have been pretty emotional for them. I know a lot of people are saying it's the right call etc., I still feel another couple of seasons could've been made before killing it. In Ian Wylie's post it's interesting PF's remark about "true budget cuts" the fact there will only be 6 episodes does also suggest (reading between the lines) that money has constrained them and this has also aided the decision. Perhaps they just can't continue to make it the way they want to make it. I think it's terribly sad. And the fact Kudos are making a new spy show Morton doesn't make sense to me at all. New cast, new format, but surely if they have "spy stories", the comparison to Spooks is inevitable so I hope for their sake it is different enough. Sorry to sound so sour, I'm not yet at the stage to be full of grace and gratitude for the 10 great years. |
