Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

I haven't read the book nor seen the tv adaptation or listened to the Radio 4 version but am really looking forward to the film. The bits I have seen/listened to have left me with the impression of George Smiley being a quite hypnotic character, decptively mild with a razor sharp mind and a ruthless character. Maybe I should get round to reading the book after I've ploughed through the Booker longlist
